Great Infrared output level, covers my whole back yard easily
I have a camera installed to overview my back yard. It had internal infrared LEDs but the pattern is a bit narrow compared to the field of view of the lens. This illuminator was installed at the peak of my roof gable under the eave, and easily covers my whole back yard. The camera image looks like daylight with this on, except it is in black&white instead of color. From about 16-feet up, the diffusion is good and does not wash out objects on the camera, so you can still see identifying details in the video. There is almost no light outdoors in our sub-division, as it has "Dark Skies" zoning to help reduce light pollution. This unit really helps the cameras see everything without throwing visible light all over our neighbor's property.

Surprisingly powerful. Excellent value.
For over a year now I have been experimenting with inexpensive 850nm near-infrared illuminators for use as NIR therapy devices. The results have been surprisingly positive. These devices have actually helped everyone who has tried them – in some cases quite impressively.Over time I became increasingly dissatisfied with my lack of knowledge of what these devices were actually doing, so I purchased a TES 1333 Solar Power Meter to measure irradiance (W/m^2 of infrared energy output) and a high quality multimeter to measure current draw. Due to the “granularity” caused by the spacing between LEDs it is not possible to get accurate measurements of irradiance directly agains the glass face plate of these devices, and the UNIVIVI U8R is especially chunky in this regard. So I took irradiance measurements starting 2” from the glass where the light beams have spread and blended together and at 2” intervals out to 12” and entered the resulting data points into a graphing calculator. Because irradiance diminishes with the square of the distance from the source, I assumed a quadratric regression curve could be closely fitted to this set of points. An R^2 of 0.984 for the resulting equation confirmed my fondest hopes. All this mathematical jiggery-pokery makes it possible to calculate an accurate irradiance value at zero distance from the glass. This is useful, because this value represents the true power density of the device.By popping the back cover off an inline rocker switch I was able to expose contacts for my multimeter to measure current flow. Set the switch in the OFF position, set up the multimeter, touch the exposed leads with the probes. The light comes on and the the current in amps gets measured. The transformer supplies 12DC current, so volts x amps = Watts.I am going to the trouble of spelling out how I did all this because ignorance, speculation, and seller misinformation abound in relation to all of the products in this class. So how does the little UNIVIVI U8R do? IT DOES FANTASTIC!The calculated irradiance at zero distance was right at 1000W/m^2 or 100mW/cm^2. 100mW/cm^2 is a seriously therapeutic dose rate, and you will get it if you put the glass screen directly against a body part. The unit is nominally rated at 8W, but mine drew 0.88 amps which works out to an actual 10.56W power draw which is impressive. So much for nominal ratings. (But I did not check to see if the transformer was actually delivering a full 12V DC. Another day for that.)So, I was pleasantly surprised by this little guy. It comes with a 1 amp power supply, and its light sensitive “eye” is external so you can put a piece of tape over it without having to disassemble anything so you can use it in daylight. It is light and easy to handle and sized just about right for treating hands, knees, neck or other localized areas. It also represents an excellent value on a total NIR energy delivered per dollar cost basis for whatever purpose you might want to use it for. It’s good gear in my book!

extend your night vision camera
people who make cameras are in the business to sell them. if you put the lamp and the lense behind the same glass, the range is limited. i extend the range of my cameras with these, up to about 300 or so feet. being in a forest, i cant get better range.they are 110, but could be powered with solar and a battery, 12V 1amp, so the distance to set them is up to you. while you can see a red glow if you look at them, the light is invisible to the human eye.i will be buying more, they work very well.

This light is very useful
I use this light with my VR headsets (quest2/quest3) and it makes it so I can use them in a dark room. Where this comes in handy for is if your someone like me that likes to sleep in VR but that also means it’s very handy if you want to use this light for nighttime cctv.

Not great for outdoors
Hung this outside near my chicken coop to illuminate the area for my IR cameras. Worked fantastic for about 2 weeks and was impressively bright. Until it rained....The power supply was too large to fit in any of my outdoor protective boxes, so I had to leave it exposed with an extension cord. Big mistake! The power supply must've shorted out and exploded, because I found half of it on the ground with scorch marks. Luckily nothing else burned. It's a great light if you have a large covered area or box to protect it from the elements. Switched to a different light with a standard plug, so I could seal it in a weather resistant case.

IR blowtorch
Bought this to extend the range of my ring camera, third generation, and it works great. In my experience mounting the floodlight about three feet above your camera will give you a good field of view. I know it says it is waterproof,I would exercise caution in this regard. I have mounted the floodlight in a sheltered location with an unobstructed view of my yard. Secondly the dusk to dawn sensor will burn out much faster if exposed to directly to sun so keep it out of direct sunlight. And last caution is about the power adapter burning up,if you can use an ac extension cord instead of adding a jumper cable to your adapter. This light loves electricity and you do not want to do anything to increase resistance.

NEVER LAST 3 MONTHS
A product that can not last 3 months is not worth anything. I bought 4 of these and each one is gone. The first two stopped working right about 2 months and one week of each other. two weeks later the third one also stopped. The last one a few days into the 3rd month. Not cool.Minus the product not last for long. I was impressed by the light quality and strength.PS: I have changed my review rating from a 2 star to a four star because of the superior customer experience. Months past my return policy, they were still willing to reach out and to make sure this one incidence would not ruin my day and overall experience. For that extra effort, I gave them four stars. I just wished the manufacturers had a superior product and were as accommodating as the sellers

Lights up the night
Floods the area very well with IR for the security camera. Only thing I didn't like was I had to remove the mount bracket off the light to mount it up, then attach the light back on all while standing 8ft up on a ladder.

As advertised and great service.
Amazing service. Came earlier than expected and works exactly as advertised.

Bright enough for small areas
It does automatically come on and switches off, but its more suitable for smaller areas. Requires a separate low voltage power supply which is not supplied.

Nice quality product.
Works very well covers my whole garden. Supplements the pathetic infrared illumination of my D-Link CCTV camera. I had struggled to find a decent quality infrared illuminator of reasonable size at a sensible price. This fits the bill nicely and has worked flawlessly for the past six weeks or so.

Works as advertised
I almost returned this, as I thought it wasn't working! Turns out, my camera was just not switching to night mode, so the IR light wasn't visible. Once switched over to night mode, it provided ample lighting throughout the backyard allowing me to see objects further away.Be mindful that it is a very narrow field of light, only 90 degrees, but they advertise that clearly, so no stars gone for that.
