Are the buckles plastic or medal?

Plastic. We've had this nearly 2 years now and they held up well

Can the strap be exchanged out or is it permanently attached?

The strap is sewn in - it could be modified to use another strap, with a little effort. Aside from that, this is an excellent bag - it has become my mobile office on business trips, working at home - everywhere.

Is there a side water bottle pocket?

No honestly this is great for a kid in elementary school not so much for an adult or even someone in high school

Does anyone have any info on how to wash/clean this bag? This bag wouldn't happen to be washing machine-safe, would it?

All of our products have the Rain Defender which is a dirt and water-resistant coating on the entire surface of our bags. We recommend cleaning our totes and bags with a damp cloth. We do NOT recommend machine washing as it will compromise the Rain Defender application.

leiferung hatt gekappt schnell mit global amazon ,aber dann , die Tasche weicht vom orginal Bild von oben das 2 Bild massiv ab keine grosse Taschen mit ZIp oder stift halter nix da , statt dessen 1 kleine einschub Tasche sehr klein und mini tasche mit zip das wars und zu guter letzt der Schulterschutz fehlt ganz . für 71€ erwarte ich mehr schade aber global Amazon nimm ich abstand
