Why does a post exposed screen blow out my image?

Maybe your original exposure was not long enough? I don't know what exposure method you used. I suggest you download an exposure calculator to get the correct exposure time dialed in correctly. (Yes, it sucks to do this extra step, especially if you're inpatient, but will help you out in the long run). I aslo suggest you watch some of Ryonets over/under exposure videos to see which problem you're experiencing. I've learned everything from YouTube.

how do you know if it is over exposed?

If your image is difficult to wash out and you cannot see the details this is an indication that you over exposed your screen.

What is the recommended exposure time with 500 Watt Halogen exposure source?

We suggest 12 minutes and then tuning the time from there

Can anyone provide any info related to sun exposure times? I know there are lots of variables, but has anyone done it successfully with this emulsion?

Yes, I have successfully exposed 160-230 mesh screens with this emulsion. Didn't try halftones, but nevertheless very detailed line image on the 230 or higher. You have to experiment with exposure times based on your geographical area, time of day/year. You could use an exposure calculator to take away a bit of the guess work. I exposed between noon and 3 pm. Exposure times are nowhere near as long as traditional exposure units/halogen lamps. The thickness of your screen coating will also affect exposure time. You might come across nay-sayers, but I had great results after doing lots of research (screen printing forums/reddit/YouTube etc)
