Just for fun, the paranoid, or for RAI
I like it, and it works well. It's fun to play with. Most of the time it's a boring 10-15 CPM. Took it on a plane and indeed the reading is higher - 250 CPM - at altitude. What they say is true about getting an x-ray worth of radiation by flying. Don't freak out if you see 1000 CPM minute once in a great while. I might be taking a walk. :)There have been incidents in In other countries where Cesium-137 got recycled improperly and ended up in homes resulting in deaths. Don't buy this thinking that this could happen to you. However, if you are like the Monk character on TV, then do buy it for peace of mind. However, please try not to worry too much about how much harm you are doing to yourself by worrying. :)If you are getting a gamma scan or RAI, this might be interesting to get. If you do not understand the differences between material, beta, and gamma exposure, then take it with a grain of salt and just follow the safety instructions given - keep a distance, don't share a bathroom, and isolate urine cleaning materials until they are safe. For RAI, your body absorbs the more dangerous cell killing beta radiation before it can reach others. Their exposure from you will likely be the less dangerous gamma radiation. Urine outside of your body will have radioactive iodine and be highly radioactive with both beta and gamma radiation. So sit and don't miss. The CPM of the counter will not tell you the if it's beta or gamma radiation or the energies involved. The highest reading I've got so far on this device is 170000 CPM next to a pill I took for a medical diagnostic gamma scan. It was 60000 CPM next to my belly after swallowing it. I think this device would saturate near you if given a RAI treatment dose. In this case, give the counter to your spouse to use when you are at a distance to verify they are not getting unnecessary exposure. Your spouse can also use it to make sure you are not "leaking" material that's radioactive. (The radioactivity should leave with you.) For example, my bed reading was normal background after I went into the next room. The hospital would not let you go if there was any risk to the public. You can turn the click off if you don't want to freak people out while walking out of the hospital. Or leave it on if you do. :)

Works well and easy to use
I bought this after my cat was treated with radioactive iodine for a thyroid tumor. The cat had to stay at the vet clinic for 3 days before her radioactivity level was low enough to come home but even then she had to be kept isolated for 2 weeks without me spending more than 10 minutes a couple of times a day within 6 feet of her. I also had to put her litter waste into a bucket for disposal for those 2 weeks. This device came in really handy as it allowed me to see exactly what radiation level the cat was giving off and see how it dropped off the farther away from her I got. This allowed me to feel more comfortable spending more time in the room with her during the second week. It was surprising to see how much the radioactivity level climbed when I put the device right next to her neck/thyroid area vs further down her body or when she was even a few inches away from the device. This also provided a way to check the radioactivity level of the waste buckets before putting them in the trash. The one from the first week was kept isolated for an additional week to allow more time for the radiation level to reduce before disposing of it. It was good to check the area of the room the cat likes to sleep in and see that there was no residual level of radiation showing when the cat was finally let out of the room. I was still reading some lower levels of radiation from the cat when I put the device right by her neck/thyroid area.I liked the ability to switch between the different measurement units on this device and the ability to silence the noise level while still seeing a clear LED display of green/yellow/red blink at the top as it detected radiation levels. The specific measurements were easy to read on the screen. I used this device for 20 to 90 minutes a day for the first couple of weeks of owning it and the battery level is still over 80% on the original charge.

Worth the buy?
Convenient, nicely packaged and works exactly for what it's intended to. If you are looking for Professional/lab grade gear then you already know you won't find that for this price but this is as close as you will get.

Simple and handy
Works great. Comes fully charged. Measures Beta, Gamma and X rays. Pocket sized, nice price, a good tool to keep on hand. For the pro? No. For a keen hobbyist and at times concerned citizen? Sure. Would recommend.

Perfect for testing uranium glass!
I bought this as a verification for finding authentic uranium glass and it works like a charm! I love that it's rechargeable but I can also easily replace the rechargeable battery. It's a good size for taking with me when trying to find UV glass as it's about the size of a cell phone and fits in my pocket easily. The screen is clear, it's audible but not too loud, it has lots of options (especially love the dark mode!) and only takes a minute to read the cpm of any given glas piece! Super easy to use. Highly recommend as an affordable option for us uranium hunters!

Surprisingly good
I got this (believe it or not) when our cat got radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism. They give generic guidance on how soon you can get friendly, but I wanted hard numbers, dammit. This meter was amazingly useful. I could get readings right at his throat, a foot away, a yard away, at the litter box, etc.. I could check to see if he was leaving a trail of radiation wherever he hung out (thankfully, no).It was cool to be able to make informed decisions about when and how much to start cozying up to him. And also to get a sense of background levels where we live.
