Smelled a bit like grass at first, but the scent went away after less than a week. This tatami mat is perfect for my zonli mattress. I used to have problems with my futon absorbing water from the ground, but this mat has fixed all those problems because I was supposed to have a mat in the first place 😅 it looks so pretty and it is great to do yoga on or stretches or just sitting on. Great purchase

Don’t be confused, this is not a Japanese tatami mat. It is a tatami like area rug. I was aware of this before my purchase so it doesn’t affect my review.Soft enough to do yoga or PT exercises on, but not thick and soft enough to comfortably sleep on with a single futon on top. Stacking two futons will give you both the support and softness of a Japanese tatami.There is a faint smell of the rush grass but it will subside over a short period of time.Recommendations:*Don’t walk on it with outdoor shoes*If vacuuming, move your vacuum in the direction of the weaving.*Do not put furniture on top of itEnjoy it for what it is. The price is okay.

I bought this for my Japanese bed. It is well made and does exactly what I needed. It is a bargain.

It stunk up my place the first day but the smell's going away and isn't really that bad because I slept like a rock on this thing. It went away after I left it outside for a few hours. Folding and putting this thing away is a blessing since it takes up less space than it does on the floor. It's a perfect level of thick and firm for me to get comfy and is really nice on your back. Would rate 5 stars if it didn't have such a powerful IAMS dog food smell

Strong smell of hay at first and not as much cushion as i was expecting. Only slightly softer than hardwood floors but should suffice with the use of a futon

I like the natural smell not sure if it’s natural but it seems to work pretty well. My futon doesn’t slip and it’s just been on the base of my adjustable bed and adjust well. Doesn’t move out of place.

Panels are not connected horizontally as depicted in the listing photos. Only by a 1” piece of fabric along each outer edge. Defeats the purpose of a foldable mat as this will likely not hold up to daily folding for breathability from nightly body heat/moisture… I bought this because the photos clearly show a mat with horizontally connected panels, that is not what I received. Item is NOT as the seller chose to visually depict.
