Overall decent - could be better for this price point
All things considered this is very pricey, even for "Grade A".Pros- Mine came all white sapwood (if that is important to you)- Mine came with very straight grain and minimal runout- Mine came without any warp- The wax finish is extremely light and does not make sanding/shaping difficult- It fit my large 4.5lb axe head from 1944 very well (with a typical amount of shaping and sanding)Cons- Price- "Poor" grain alignment. While runout is a larger concern, I would have preferred an alignment that ran closer to the angle of the bitTime will tell how much the alignment matters. Also, you almost certainly WILL need to alter your handle in some small way. Axe eyes are not a global or chronological standard. Don't expect to buy a handle and plug it into your axe head like its a USB cable.

Disappointed with the workmanship
Disappointed with the workmanship, rough finish. Either the craftsman was rushed or didn't care. Even though, it's better than nothing. I'll try a fiberglass handle next time.

Took a chance but worked well for me.
Just reset this handle into my grandfathers old single bit 5 lb Plumb Axe head. I was very skeptical of a few things before ordering but decided to give it a shot due to the low price. I had to shape the insert to get a good fit which was worth the time, as I got it about 98% perfect before starting to work the head on. I used a process for fitting the head from Wranglerstar on YouTube. Once I got the handle through the head, nice and tight with good overlap, I used the Link wedge (which also required trimming) and 2 metal wedges to finish it off. This was only my second time resetting a tool head so we will see how well I did over time.Concerns were as follows:1) wood grain - I was pleasantly surprised as the grain orientation was very good.2) lacquer or finish on the handle wood - it is finished, but not a major problem. Very light coated, probably just to protect it in shipping. Easy to sand off and start working your finish and linseed oil in.Overall this has worked great so far, looking forward to finishing it all off and using the axe again.

Good replacement for splitting mail
As expected...has the teardrop head and comes with one wedge that is slightly too wide...had to split it down a little. Also, the groove for the wedge was way to thin, so I put it in a vise, closed the gap, and used a hand saw to widen the gap....worked well. Seems to be a good piece of hickory and straight grained. Have not tested yet, but seems fine.

Luck of the draw
These are 5 star all day if you get lucky and land a straight handle. Like most they need to be tuned to fit your hands and all that, but donโt be surprised if grain and shaft are not straight. Still nice handles

Grain orientation could be better.
Overall I like the handle. The grain orientation could be better, but I like the feel. I purchased this for a 3 1/2 lb head and it was the only one with this length and the proper size for the eye. I will try to hang it anyway as it isn't completely unacceptable to me; just could be better.

Best online handle yet!
By far the best handle I have bought online. Great palm swell. Good shoulder. Perfect grain. Set a 3.8 pound craftsman single bit head to it. Plenty of material to shape to fit. Kerf well centered.

Good length
The length is perfect and comes w/a wedge. With some sanding I got the head to fit, mine's got an odd shape to it. The varnish put on it isn't to my liking, globs & some pock marks. I sanded it down & put boiled linseed oil on it.
