Very good
But expensive but it is worth it, my previous dash cam was much cheaper and not as good as this. I like the 3 cameras and that the screen turns off when driving, most cheap ones don't do that and it's annoying, especially if you're driving behind someone, it's also very easy to hide this from view from passersby.

Excellent quality camera system, albeit with an overly sensitive voice activation function.
Although on the higher end of the cost of a dashcam, I still believe this gives good value for money with regards to quality and functionality. I have knocked a star off as I had to turn voice command off as it kept hearing words and phrases in normal conversation and taking photos and saving clips without us wanting it too.

Poor software. A missed opportunity
I struggled about whether to give the "VIOFO A229 Plus 3 Channel Dash Cam" a two or a three star overall. For value for money though, it is a two star. The camera hardware is decent, it is adequate for its purpose. But the integration with the software and usability is quite frankly atrocious. Firstly, this thing connects to your phone via wifi not bluetooth, so you can not use your wifi connection when you are connected to the camera, which is a severe oversight from a usability point of view and completely unnecessary. Secondly the speed of downloading videos is horribly slow over wifi, you may as well just remove the micro SD card and plug it into a computer and download direct. In addition, because it is connected to the app by wifi, each time you start up the app is a whole ceremony of having to disconnect from whatever wifi you are connected to, turning on the wifi of the camera and then connecting to it, its just ridiculous and makes the app quite unstable because it refuses to start up unless you are already connected to the device. Words fail me. The (android) app itself is quite tempremental and somewhat unstable, even though it is still much easier to set up the cameras with this than manually on the interface. I would advice that you should install the app, connect to the device, update your password and set up any other options you require, then never use it again. The interface buttons on the device are unintuitive aside from very basic use. They should have included extra window mounting film in the package in case you mess one up which I did and had to buy another whole pack. I'm pretty underwhelmed and feel that this was a lost opportunity for Viofo to deliver something enjoyable and rewarding to use. My other pieces of advice is to make sure that when you remove the micro SD card from the main camera, if there are aircon vents in the dash below, put a cloth or something over them to catch card if you drop it to save the hassle of losing it or otherwise having to dismantle things and go on a search. Instead of plugging into the cigarette lighter which clutters up the area or trying to wire this thing into your car fuse box which seems somewhat unnecessarily invasive and possibly risky, I took the option of just using a usb powerbrick, which can just be tidied away inside the glove compartment or somewhere less obvious in the car. I use the camera system by plugging into the power brick when I am parked and just have it continuously record and don't bother using it in any other mode. When I come back to the car, I download all the video from the SD card at home and go through them to make sure nothing happened to the car. I don't park anywhere that is not home for very long so it still suits my purpose but I have to say that app software and firmware are rather underwhelming.

Buy a memory card.
Why did you choose this product over others?: Initially I was hesitant to get this dash cam. It was expensive but recommended. You can probably get a cheaper one that's just as good quality but I do like the 3 camera options. MAKE SURE YOU BUY A MEMORY CARD OR IT WON'T WORK AND DOESN'T COME WITH ONE. Fit: I'll be honest it was a little bit of a nightmare to fit. It will depend on your car and how easy it is to stuff the cables into the trim but once installed no issues. The rear camera has excess cable hanging but there's nothing I can do about it because if I stuff it tightly into the trim then it'll pull the camera off when I open the boot. Ease of use: Easy to use. Mine is just in the cigarette lighter but likely better to hard wire it in. Value for money: Expensive Camera quality: Good quality on all 3 cameras both day and night.
