Yes, the Befree will filter out Cryptosporidium. The filter is .2 microns and it will remove 99.99% of bacteria, protozoa and things linke E-Coli, Cryptosporidium and Giardia.

Can I connect this to a clean bottle to make a gravity system? If so, how?

Accepted Answer

If you wanted to attach it directly to another bottle you would need to purchase an adapter.  It has a standard screw type end which attaches to the stay clean drink nozzle.  You could fill the filter flask and hang it using your own chord and then easily fill a clean bottle by placing your clean bottle end over the stay clean drink nozzle and squeezing the flask until the clean bottle is full.

Is this a separate & distinct version without the strap holder & tube I've seen in-person on one of these?

Yes. We have the Befree 3.0L Befree (Item Number: 8019640) - this comes with the drinking nozzle that is just like the smaller .6L and 1L Befree systems. We also have the Befree 3.0L Gravity (item number 8020470) - this comes with the hose, quick connect cap to connect the hose to the filter, and a carry/hanging strap.

How often does the filter need replaced?

The lifespan of the filter is directly related to the quality of water being filtered through it. If you are using clear water, the filter will last on average for about 1000L of water.  If cloudy/muddy/silty water is run through it, the filter will clog a little faster. You can expand the lifespan of your filter if you follow the cleaning instructions after each use.
