Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: An incredible guide that's not just for start-ups - Short Review: An awesome 'How to' guide that takes you through every stage of launching either a physical or digital business. Recommendation: If you're considering starting a business, or looking to improve an existing one, then buy and apply this book. Longer Review: I've not read all of this book yet. But, as the authors point out, you don't do that until you've completed every stage of the process they outline. The book is a detailed (very detailed) step-by-step guide to formulating your Business Idea, Customer Discovery and Lean Launch. As you go through each of these phases, the book is intended to act as a reference document. It's a chunky, large book that is not bedtime reading. Although, if you're interested in this type of material, you'll find it something of a page turner! Every page (of those that I've read so far) is well written, easy-to-understand and immediately applicable. You can tell that this is a guide written by people who have really launched businesses. You can also tell that they've been both successful and unsuccessful because the advice is honest and realistic. It's unusual for me when I write a review not to find something in a book that I don't like. However, with this book, I haven't (yet) found anything in it or about it I'd change. OK, maybe I'm a bit starry eyed about this stuff as I plan my own £100 million business ;) But it's the guide I wished I'd had in previous job roles and business ventures. And it's a guide I think all new entrepreneurs, as well as people working in established businesses, would do well to read, study and apply page, by carefully crafted, page. Highly recommended. Review: Wonderful Book for Startups - The Startup Owners Manual is a wonderful inspiring and informative book of how to get going in business and how important it is to focus on customer adoption. Customer Discovery and Customer Validation The book is split into 3 Manuals: The Startup Owner’s Manual Strategy Guide The Startup Owner’s Manual for Web/Mobile Channel Startups The Startup Owner’s Manual for Physical Channel Startups “A startup is a temporary organisation in search of a scalable, repeatable, profitable business model.” What differentiates startups from established companies is defined better here than I have seen it anywhere else. To understand and live this definition is so important for new companies and it requires a special breed of people that hunger and flourish in uncertainty. This is an agile world where our goal is to build a Minimum Viable Product. The business and product in those early days go through the same experiences and are almost synonymous. The concept of Minimum and Viable are so difficult to balance but that is the secret. Throughout the book, there are great formatting and visual techniques used to highlight major points. Graphics help emphasise key processes and examples are used to underpin explanation. The step by step guide appeals to our process minds and helps us realise that while there is a lot of uncertainty there at least is an approach.

Wonderful Book for Startups
The Startup Owners Manual is a wonderful inspiring and informative book of how to get going in business and how important it is to focus on customer adoption. Good, Flexible Methodology
Clear and comprehensive. I am running a startup within an established business and found this guide very useful as a sensible approach to take. Although some is common sense there is a lot of not so obvious knowledge. If I had to say anything negative I'd say that it is pitched somewhat at well funded startups with lots of staff and big budgets which might be the case in San Francisco but unlikely for 98% of the rest of us. Despite this the book is still a great guide if you scale some of the suggestions down to fit your own reality - which is what I did.

Would not be without this bible
I am well aware of the author, Steve Blank, and his leading role in driving the philosophy of the lean start-up. He combines both his business experiences and his obvious teaching abilities exceptionally well. His credibility is without question. I have also had the experience of starting up a number of businesses but without the exposure to the lean canvas and the other steps that Steve expounds. How did I survive without them? I know now with hindsight that I would have been in a better place with the benefit of Steve's guidance.

Finally the missing manual for every startup entrepreneur.
Must have for all startup entrepreneurs. Have bought 3 already to give to our advisors. Probably had to order few more to give every startup entrepreneur asking my advise, because most really are in this book. Works for a busy entrepreneur: It's written as a manual meaning there is no need to read it thru from cover to cover. First few chapters introduce the framework. Then it's easy to read as you go with your startup selecting the right chapter for your challenge in hand. Also online and offline startups are handled in separate chapters in each case, so you never need to read non-relevant stuff. Brillant!

Save your time and save your business
If you can judge a person by the impact they have had then Steve Blank is a living legend. His ground-breaking work ‘The Four Steps to the Epiphany’ introduced the Customer Development process which launched a new approach to creating products. His award-winning teaching of the Customer Development has created many entrepreneurs, including Lean Startup creator Eric Ries. Steve has co-authored this book with fellow serial entrepreneur Bob Dorf, and it is epic, both in size and weight, but also in scope. The Startup Owner’s Manual is a solid reference book for creating successful companies, and at 608 dense pages it is not going to be a light read but what it has is value throughout. If you are thinking of creating a company or a product, either for a physical or web/mobile channel then buy this book, read it, absorb it and refer to it often. The evidential approach to customer development will save you time and money and, hopefully, drive you towards quantifiable product success.
