I've even tried using a wrench!** A: I did not have a problem installing batteries. I just went to check mine to see if I could get it opened since I have never had to replace the batteries. It was a little tight, so I took a screwdriver, put it through the plastic hook at the bottom/battery compartment and turned it that way. Don't be too forceful, since if yours is defective it could break the plastic hook. **Q: This may seem odd but can this be used for land purposes or only in water. The sonar works in principle but was flooded on my 3rd dive with it. Two first dives were shallow (12 m), and last week I took the device for a dive to 25 m, which resulted in flooded unit. The battery cap's seal did not reveal the leak path, and I just guess it was leaking through display edge.No external damage was observed initially, but after drying I have reinspected it again, and think it leaked through the activation button.The vendor had agreed to change the item, but only if I cover shipping cost to and from US as their UK office cannot do it. Unfortunately due to my residence in Equatorial Africa, the shipping will cost me more than new unit.
