First time griller success!
First off, I have to tell you that this is the first grill I have ever used. As a single woman, I was never interested in grilling until I bought a house two years ago and built a deck in the backyard. With all that outdoor space to enjoy, I just knew I needed a grill for entertaining (and feeding) family and friends. I thought I might buy a grill and just let my dad or brother handle the grilling, but much to my surprise I really got into it and loved grilling hamburgers and hot dogs on this Weber kettle grill for my first backyard party just yesterday! I did a lot of research prior to purchasing this grill from Amazon. I chose a charcoal grill over propane because I didn't want to deal with propane tanks (a friend had his grill go up in flames because of a loose hose and nearly burned his house down--No thank you!), I like the taste and smell from charcoal grills more, and most importantly because of the cost. It was less expensive to get a nice charcoal grill like this one than to get an equally nice propane grill. The entry cost into grilling was more reasonable with a charcoal grill. This freed up funds to get some important accessories, which I recommend to anyone buying this grill: a chimney starter, grilling tools like tongs, fork, etc, a steel brush to clean the grates, the Weber Fire starter cubes, and some heavy duty mitts to protect your hands and forearms while grilling. I purchased all these from Amazon at the same time I purchased the grill. As for choosing a which charcoal grill to get, I chose this model over the lesser expensive model because of the ash catcher, and I'm glad I did. The grill arrived in its original box and was easy to put together on my own, with the exception of attaching the ash catcher itself. But I just kept trying (and referring to the picture-only instructions) and eventually got it. It was put together in about 40 minutes, and that was putting it together myself. One of the best things I did was lookup videos online about this grill to see how it was used and put together. I learned about closing the vents on the lid and on the bottom to reduce heat, and how to quickly get the charcoal ready for grilling by using a chimney starter and Weber Fire Starter cubes (which I highly recommend getting). As my brother and dad arrived to my house yesterday for our Memorial Day BBQ, each were skeptical about this charcoal grill because they have propane grills at home and like the convenience of them. "It will take an hour to get to coals ready," said my brother. "Those burgers are way too thick to cook through. They'll be raw in the middle," said my dad. Both were surprised when the charcoal was ready within about 20 minutes using the chimney! And after getting some nice grill marks on both sides of the burgers, I put the lid on and closed the vents to let them finish cooking the middle of the burgers in a lower heat. The burgers turned out perfectly! The best compliment was Dad and others asking me how I grilled these thick burgers so well without burning them to dust. LOL! It's all in the vents! And I think investing in an awesome grill helped, too. My brother and dad both were asking about the grill by the end of the party. I think they might be considering trading in their propane grills for their own Weber kettle grills soon. ;) Lastly, just a bit of advice to any amateur grill masters like myself out there... Do yourself a favor and start out with this grill. All of the excellent reviews tell you that it's a good grill. The fact that so many experienced backyard chefs keep returning to their Weber kettle grills is very telling. Also, be sure to look up recipes at YouTube. I searched for "hamburger on charcoal grill" and found lots of videos with great advice on getting perfect burgers. And bonus! Nearly all of the people in the videos were using a Weber kettle grill. :)

Weber Kettle Grill
I have used propane for all of my adult life. I saw this grill on Modern Marvels and had to try one. Assembly was a breeze. I also got a charcoal chimney to use with the grill. It will get the charcoal going with ease. You can use the grill without it, but it’ll be a little more challenging. I also got charcoal trays for inside the grill. This is nice for saving coals to reuse at a later date. It also keeps the charcoal lumped together to keep the grill hotter in the right way. It also defines where zone heating boundaries are. It’s a timeless design and it’s pleasant to cook on. This design came out in 1952. How cool is that? While improvements have been made, the basic structure is unchanged over 65 years. You can smoke meats on this grill. Is it a smoker? No, but you can do it. You can cook slow or fast on this grill. It’s a Jack of all trades product, which adds to its appeal. I’ve heard people mention that they’re using their dad’s kettle grill. That speaks volumes about the longevity of this particular product. I did buy the premium grill cover for it. The cover is noticeably thicker than a generic cover. I’m hoping that will help protect it pretty well. I’m looking forward to years of use with this grill. I’m super excited about it, but I get that it’s just a grill. Something so simple, yet so perfect in what it does.

Very Nice Charcoal Grill
I bought this charcoal grill to augment the gas grill I already have. Gas grill is convenient, but charcoal grill provides better flavor. The grill arrived in one box, weight 37 pounds. There is an assembly guide. Note, it is all in pictures, no text for assembly. Fortunately, putting the grill together is relatively simple. It took about 30 minutes. There were no issues with assembly, other than one of the V-shaped clips that holds a leg to the body of the grill wouldn't snap in but that was easily rectified by opening up the V slightly. After doing that, it snapped into place. All of the necessary pieces for assembly were in the box; nothing was missing. There was one extra part; the small cap that holds the wheels on the axle. You only need two as there are just two wheels, but the parts bag had three caps, I assume in case one didn't get put on correctly and a spare was needed, but they caps tap on easily with a small hammer (small point, the caps are just plastic so tapping the cap directly with a hammer will scuff it, so better to use a small piece of wood or other flat object between the cap and the hammer. The scuffing is only cosmetic, it does not affect the ability of the cap to hold the wheel on or interfere with the wheel turning). The only tool you need to assemble the grill is a medium Phillips head screwdriver (to put the plastic cover on the front handle). There are a few hex nuts to tighten, but a small, functional tool is included in the parts to handle that. The grill performs well. It has an ash-catcher on the bottom making cleaning out the used charcoal easy. The grill has a thermometer that mounts in the hood. It seems to be reasonably accurate. Temperature is controlled by the amount the bottom and top vents are open; both move easily. There is a handle cover on the bottom part of the grill to ensure you can move the the grill without burning yourself. The handle also has built-in hooks to allow for conveniently hanging grill tools such as tongs, grill brush, spatula, etc. The food grill has two flaps that allow you to add charcoal or wood for smoking without needed to lift off the entire grill. Included is an instruction book on how to use the grill once assembled; they provide three booklets in three languages: English, French & Spanish. Overall, I am happy I made this purchase. It is a well-made, sturdy charcoal grill that is more than adequate for most backyard grilling needs. Obviously seasoned grillmasters may want a grill that has additional features (side table, electronic ignition, etc.) but this grill is fine for the average person/family. The 22-inch diameter surface easily fits more than a dozen hamburgers. My first use was 13 chicken drumsticks & thighs using indirect grilling, and they fit easily. This grill is a good choice for plain, standard charcoal grilling, It is mobile, looks good, works well, and combines solid design & construction in a wonderful product that I expect will be delivering good results for many years.

The best of the affordable charcoal grills
This is one of the finest budget charcoal grills. Some background -- since 1995 I have been using a Char-Grill grill; it was outstanding until rust got it. This was a much BIGGER grill, with heavy cast iron grates, a swing-out gate to put in more charcoal, and a bottom pan to catch ashes. Easy enough to clean and worked well enough. When it bit the dust a few weeks ago, I was a bit hesitant to order the Weber. Looking at in person, it just seemed small. It *IS* smaller than the old Char-Grill I had. No side tables, either. However, all that has some advantages. I used it this past Mother's Day to cook ribs and chicken, and it came out fabulous. First off, there are no hinges to rust, and the grill itself is very lightweight, easy to move into the center of my yard where I always grill (away from the house). Assembly was easy, requiring a screwdriver and hammer (and in my case, a handy pair of pliers from my Victorinox Swisstool multi-tool -- assembly tip -- put the spring clips in the legs NOT in the leg receivers as shown in the assembly instructions). Total time, about an hour, one person, no stress. Once assembled, everything was solid. Compared to my old grill, the charcoal is closer to the food, and the heat directed much more towards the center. So my cook time was about 15 minutes less for the chicken (indirect method -- I heavily marinate the chicken) and about 20 minutes less for baby back pork ribs. The temp got a LOT hotter. No hinges and such make lifting the lid off a hassle -- make sure you lift off SLOWLY and rest on the hook. BUT that means one less piano style hinge avoiding rust out and so on. The thermometer is totally replaceable from Weber, as is the grill, etc. So if anything DOES break, you can replace it not the entire grill. That's a huge deal -- Weber has TONS of accessories for this grill which is very popular. Including center pans and grills for making whole turkeys and chickens. I plan to get that for Thanksgiving. Adding charcoal is easy -- just lift up the grill side plates and add it in. I'd advise if you are moving from a bigger grill, to adjust downward your estimate of how much charcoal you'll need. I'd add in the charcoal from your chimney starter and then just add as needed, if you have a drip pan in the center which I highly recommend. I added too much charcoal moving from my old grill and that was a bit hairy. Again, this grill burns hotter, with heat redirected due to the circular design, back to the center of the grill, and uses less charcoal compared to the rectangular shaped grills. Clean-up? Easy. Much easier than my old grill. The stainless steel grills are both light and small enough to fit (at least partially) in the sink and get scrubbed with warm soapy water. The top grill with grease and food required also some Kleen-King stainless steel/copper cleanser to get the stains off, result is fabulous. The ash catcher works great and the little sweeper does a nice job of removing most of the ash. I used a hose to hose out the last bit of ash and dried the inside off with an old t-shirt as ash is corrosive and we do get dew around here. The ash pot goes nicely in a trash bag and disposal of the ash is easy. You will want a side table with this grill. You can build your own or buy one at a hardware store. That's about the only downside I can think of. Really, this is a fabulous grill. Don't let the relatively small size fool you -- for three/four people it is quite sufficient. And if you need more space you can get the bigger grill or just buy two.

Weber Charcoal grills = best
What can I say it’s a Webber 22.5 inch kettle it has everything you need including the ssh catcher at the bottom which allows for self cleaning the ash. The temperature gauge and the vent control on the top and the bottom allow for optimized air flow control and amazing bbq’ing. These kettles when used with a proper chimney and some understanding of air flow and where to place the meat for direct or indirect grilling really cannot be beat they are a classic for a reason. The one touch is a nice system to keep the ash in the tray in the bottom ease of cleaning and dumping the ash. The value is absolutely amazing. Functional beyond anything. Once you get good with charcoal you really will not enjoy your propane grill nearly as much as your charcoal that’s because it just grills meat better and we all know this. Get a proper Weber chimney starter to get the charcoal hot efficiently and quickly and enjoy proper charcoal bbq’ing. You can even smoke with these really well and learn how to lay charcoal via snake method. Weber quality is great. The one touch Webber 22.5 inch premium is an unbeatable American classic grill and I recommend anyone for any person who considers themselves a grilled and who enjoys meat off the bbq. The side is great and I keep mine covered until I am using it..just so I can make sure it lasts longer protected from the elements and believe me they last a long time. Weber is great.

Works
This grill was fairly easy to assemble, it has everything you need, and it cooks great. Pros: Gorgeous finish. My green grill has such a deep color that you'd almost lose it in a forest. Absolutely gorgeous. Looks great on my lawn. All the accessories. The "premium" version has a temperature-control grate that doubles as an ash catcher bucket, a handle with hooks for grill tools, two grates for both your fuel and cooking, an adjustable damper on top to control smoke/temperate, a temperature prob in the lid, a heat-safe handle... did I mention the lid has a hook so you can store it on the lip of the grill while you work? This is a truly brilliant setup. Grate ideas. The cooking grate has flip-open panels so you can stick something down and adjust coals as necessary. It also has handles for carrying, which double as hangers so you can hang the grate on the side of the grill while you prep the coals. It's genius. Cons: The temperature-control damper and ash catcher bucket only does an okay job clearing spent embers. You have to do a lot of back-and-forth adjustment to get embers to fall into the bucket, which can lead to extensive work if you're trying to cool off a grill fast. This system really works best when you're grilling early in the day, so the coal has plenty of time to burn down before you put the grill away. If you wanted to do a big grill later in the day, you'd basically have to leave the grill overnight, which could be a fire hazard - or else you'd need to douse your coal, which is a different topic. Bottom line: If you mostly intend to grill at midday for summer parties, this is a wonderful all-in-one system. If you grill mostly later in the evening to night, the ash bucket is just an accessory to prevent buildup. Questionable: Gas vs Wood vs Pellets vs Charcoal. Which is right for you? In short I'd put it like this. Charcoal is by far the cheapest way to get started. My grill, plus all the coal I'll need all year, still costs much less than a gas equivalent. Gas might be a superior grill a few years from now when I want to invest, but for now, charcoal works and I personally love the flavor. Pellets have probably outmoded wood entirely for most people, but pellet and wood grills lead to a lot of smoke, so they tend to be unsuitable for cooking in a dense urban area (if they allow grills at all!). Charcoal omits less smoke than most wood or pellet grills, and combined with its cheap startup costs, makes it an ideal solution for someone like me who only has a 2-person household and only barbecues maybe once a month. Overall: Highly recommended. Easy to setup, gorgeous to look at, and a pleasure to operate... so long as I'm cooking earlier in the day.
