Improved design, eliminates OEM sensor leaks.
Updated design, improved Viton / FKM oring seals. Eliminates the oil leaking / wicking through the inside of the sensor to the plugs in the wiring harness as these are sealed instead of open to the crankcase. Original Continental designed Mercedes OEM sensors are open internally, I suppose to let oil cool the sensor. However eventually this leads to the seal between the crankcase and the sensor wires degrading and allowing oil to creep and seep well into the wiring harness if not caught early. I didn’t find the OEM ones leaking at the wiring harness on the one I’m refreshing, however the oring seals had begun to leak due to the PCV breather system starting to over pressurize the crankcase ~75k miles. Happens to most DI vehicles with complex PCV breather setups. The seals start sticking open and closed and the crankcase finds another path for over pressurization. Sometimes you’ll find the oil dipstick won’t stay down in some more severe cases. This failure happens on both the NA 3.5 m276 and TT 3.0 m276 engines, both of which have different but similar crank position sensor designs. They also have different PCV designs although the 3.0 TT version seems to be slightly more resilient, if not vastly more expensive to refresh PCV wise. These come fully sealed in a bag so you know someone didn’t try-fit / throw their garbage one in and return it. Only downside is no returns if you open it and use it. Limited warranty through Amazon only as Delphi does not warranty outside of mechanic shops apparently. I don’t blame them though. For the price, it’s a quality part. Any more expensive and I’d just buy OEM however. It’s nearly OEM priced already. I will add the other downside; especially with all the import tax non-sense is availability and pricing has been bad. Availability is spotty and price keeps going up! Worse than 2020 by far.
