Reliable and easy-to-use mechanical timer.
This HBN 24-hour immersion heater timer works exactly as expected and is very straightforward to set up. The mechanical segments are easy to adjust, allowing precise control over on/off times, which is useful for managing energy usage. The unit feels solid and well built, and the waterproof cover is a helpful feature for added protection in utility or boiler areas. Once configured, the timer operates consistently and switches the load reliably. Overall, a dependable and practical timer switch that helps automate heating schedules and improve energy efficiency. Good value and suitable for everyday household use.

Relatively simple to install and easy to use
Purchased so that I could add timer functionality to my bathroom electric towel rails as they were currently on simple on/off switches, which were a pain to remember to turn on and off when needed. I am not an electrician but have installed similar timers and switches before, if unsure hire a professional. Items arrived quickly (bought two, one for each bathroom) and the timer was in small cardboard packaging, no plastic, good for recycling. Box contained the timer, some clear instructions (the same as on the product page) and 2 spare backplate screws to screw to the back box. Installation was a process of removing the old switch leaving the original back box in place. I then unscrewed the backplate from the timer switch and screwed that in to the back box. Yes the screws are fairly tight, and you will need a small Phillips head screw driver to get in the recesses. Remember the orientation when you install it as it needs to match with the timer. Luckily for me the old switch had clearly labeled wiring and it was a case of replicating that on the new switch. However, and this is really where the 1 point is deducted, there are no earthing terminators, which meant that I had to use a separate wiring connector block to connect the earthing wires (see photo for type). Not a big problem, but it may require a trip out to the shops to get them (bought mine in Wilko), and there is enough space left in the back box to store it. It's an additional few £'s if you don't have them already. My wires were solid core, so fitting and screwing the timer switch on to the back box was a bit of a pain, but otherwise straightforward. I suggest partially screwing the bottom screw first so you can see the alignment, then the top screw. Timer itself works fine so far. The guide says to push the timer pins "in" for the times you want it to turn on is correct, it's just how you interpret the word "in". I assume it is meant to be taken as pushing them down and "in" as they become more recessed than when they are "out". The timer took me a few seconds to understand, basically the outer time selection dial is 24 hours, and the inner clock is 12 hours, both on one dial, so you rotate it to the correct AM/PM time. The current 24 hour time is shown by an arrow at the 2 o'clock position on the dial. The inner "clock" is slightly redundant I think as you can just focus on the outer 24 hour dial time. It's good that it allows control over a 24 hour day, each "pin" is a 15 minute segment and simple to set up morning and evening on times. I have tested it and it works on the timer when set in the middle position on the red switch, as well as just switching it to on or off. The orange light at the bottom left signifies when the switch is "on", it's not very bright but in a dark room it may be distracting. The clear plastic cover clips on with 3 clips, the cover needs slight pressure on each clip to remove, which should keep young children from removing it, but it's by no means secure. Overall a good purchase, both items were equally well built so no variance that I could see, I would buy them again if the need arose.

Just the job
Robustly built and keeps good time. Easy to fit if you're competent, if not, hire an electrician. I installed this as I get off-peak electricity at night time, so works out cheaper than gas to heat my water tank.

Cheap , poor quality and potentially dangerous.
Cheap flimsy plastic. Kept time for a couple of weeks but now loses an hour plus a day. Absolute rubbish, dont waste your money or time..! UPDATE: Approximately two months after having had this unit fitted by a qualified electrician, the units timer stopped working all together and then the unit "blew up" ! Melting internal wiring. DO NOT BUY!

Simple‑to‑fit immersion heater timer
Straightforward installation, the segmented dial is easy to adjust. Love the handy waterproof cover for safety. 16‑amp rating feels robust and it successfully cuts my hot‑water electricity waste. Great budget‑saving gadget.

Inexpensive but disappointing.
Inexpensive but disappointing. Instructions a bit unclear ('push in the segments ...'), need micro fingers for settings, etc. Clock stops if power cut, not easy to reset. Wish I'd gone for a digital model for a few more ££.
