It took me all of 5 minutes to remove my old socket and to rewire the new socket, at the same time correcting the lack of an earth wire to the faceplate which I discovered in the original wiring. It does provide sufficient power on one of the USB sockets to recharge a Hudl, which needs 2 amps. There is no noticeable heating in the faceplate or in the back box (which is in a cupboard), so the ventilation of a surface mounted box is sufficient.

These arrived on time and fitted perfectly fine. Though these particular ones did not come with the little white plastic caps to hide the fixing screw heads, which others I have used did. The USB chargers are very convenient to use. Whilst easy to fit for the experienced, Items such as these should only be fitted by a competent person and a proper tester used to check the mains connection afterwards.

Disappointing
It looks a well made unit. However as soon as mains was applied a "pop" was heard and no USB function on either output even after 10 minutes waiting. The mains outlets still worked and there was no sign of fire, so that's why it doesn't get 1 star.It gets 3 stars due to the Amazon returns process offering a full refund.

Worth the extra.
This is a UK-manufactured (or so it appears) socket which is of high quality (up to normal MK type standard). Having read negative reviews of some ostensibly similar sockets, I decided to pay the small extra price to get this one, and I am glad I did. So far both the 13 amp sockets and USB outlets have worked flawlessly, and it represents a very neat solution to multiple charging Note: (1) It does, as it clearly states, require a minimum 35mm back box. (2) Like other versions, the two USB outlets total 2 Amps so share this if two devices are charged simultaneously. (3) It is single pole (which is necessary so as to maintain power to the USB outlets which are permanently live).

Very nice design. Easy to fit
Very nice design.Easy to fit. USB sockets makes it 4 sockets for use. I would have loved it if it would have come up with concealer for screw fitting to make it nice finish.

Fewer big black plugs
Easy enough to fit for someone who can use a screwdriver or has a friend who is. Remember to turn off the mains. Spare fitting screws are supplied, although you can use the ones that you take out of the original socket. Most people can fit these without the need for a qualified electrician. The output of the USB is sufficient to recharge my iPad Air 2, although you do get a message saying that you are using an uncertified power source. No problems with other USB gadgets. I am ordering a couple more, one for the bedroom and one for the kitchen, as I think that for the price they are very useful.

USB sockets failed
Bought three of these. USB sockets failed after a week on one of them, a week on another and around 12 months on another. Absolute rubbish so glad they appear to have been withdrawn from stock.

Absolutely brilliant.
So much better than a plug in adaptor that one's female housemates continually move around and lose! I've bought 2 of them so far, and will be buying at least another 4 so I'll end up with USB charging wherever I need it. This should be standard fit kit on all new houses........Takes less than 10 minutes to fit - even if you've never done any DIY you can fit this. Just don't forget to flick the switch on your fuse box before starting. in fact, the biggest hassle with this is resetting clocks that go off when you switch off the ring main!
