Very pricey, dented cans recurring theme, apparent short shelf life Dec 2025
No matter how you slice it, canned potatoes lack potato flavor and desired texture. Sauce is very mild. Mildly sweet with noticeable vinegar taste. No one wanted much of this product; especially given price $6 per can. The German potato salad concept, in general, originated from German immigrants who brought their "Kartoffelsalat" to America. The specific recipe for the Seneca Foods "Read" brand was likely developed internally or through their acquisition of the "Read" brand...." This is the Americanized version, their vision. of German potato salad. Seneca foods also provides Aunt Nellie's, Libbey's, and Green Giant brands. HQ is in upstate NY. Waiting on response for actual shelf-life. My cans expire 23 Dec 2025. I hoped for an 18 month window, as I was shopping for tasty foods during extended power outages; hurricane season. As everyone complains, rightly so, stop denting these non-refundable cans. My cans dents did not affect their seal. Wanted to see if other reviewers comments about excessive liquid and basically getting potato soup; potatoes had no texture, just plain glop. Reviewers wanted Red labelled cans vice white labelled cans shown in reviews, thinking it made a difference in product. I had just emptied two white labelled cans, expired 7 years ago. Yes, recent cans contain about 20% more liquid; guesstimate. However, I broke slices to test their firmness; expired versus new no discernible difference. Older cans had weaker, but very similar, odor; undamaged cans held up well. Why did you pick this product vs others?: What other versions? Value for money: No, extremely pricey. Texture: Exactly as expected. Taste: Bland, mild vinegar, slightly sweet.

Avoid Shipment of Damaged Goods!
This is usually a great product we enjoy. However, 4 out of 8 cans bought are dented. While food isnโt returnable more care should be taken not to ship damaged goods to customers!!

Taste
I thought it would have the consistency of our potato salad. But it was more like soup. And it had some sharp tasting spices. But it was still good.

Good taste for hard to find dish
Canโt find around here in NC. Good taste for a canned product

More soup than potato salad
Very runny, a quarter of the can is liquid. Could not return because it is a food product - even though unopened.
