This is an embossed expanded pvc top with a synthetic felt base table protector. At 2.4mm thick it is much thicker than others available at much cheaper prices. It is designed to protect modern tabletops from medium heat, stains and scratches.The material itself will start to deform at about 90 degrees centigrade and will protect modern tabletops to about 80 degrees centigrade.Do not believe those who says it protects higher than this. It simply does not. It is heat resistant and protects against hot plates and bowls. The top is waterproof and protects against spills.The soft felt underlay protects against scratches. But please note its limitations: (1) It is not stain proof. (2) Never place hot plates directly from hob, grill or oven. If in doubt use a table mat. (3) Never store with the embossed side directly onto the tabletop for any length of time. (4) This is not suitable for older, soft or French Shellacs that can melt at under 50 degrees centigrade. (5) Not suitable for washing or tumble drying. Do not iron.
