Her books are so raw and engaging. While some find comfort in the rawness by relating to things other people are very often scared to talk so candidly about, others can stand to learn something about people who struggle with addiction, grief, or mental illness. 10/10 book. Beautifully written
LOVED IT!! Such a real and heartbreaking book. Shows how hard addiction can really be and how we don’t always realize we have a problem. Loved meeting Bella and seeing her grow. Sometimes I wish there was sequels to Kathleen’s books just so I can see how her characters are now 😂

We have teens from the ages of 13 to 18 and they have all enjoyed being able to read these books. The prices are great, and they seem to be lasting a while, so I think they are good quality.

Fifteen year old girl with a drinking problem
Bella has a problem. She’s the problem. At fifteen life feels heavy. Her parents divorced. Her grandmother died. Her grades are slipping. Her boyfriend broke up with her. She has to spend one week with her dad and one week with her mom. Trying to manage the stress is unbearable. Alcohol becomes her vise. Bella doesn’t realize how out of control she is under the influence of alcohol until one night at a party changes the trajectory of her life. … At the age of fifteen Bella is dealing with more than she can handle. The only way she can decompress is with alcohol. She thinks she’s got it under control when in reality the alcohol is controlling her. After blacking out after drinking too much her mother realizes something needs to change. … The Glass Girl follows fifteen year old Bella through alcoholism and rehab. It’s a raw and intense story about her troubles as an alcoholic. The pressures of life are too much for her to handle and the anxiety to feel normal sends Bella down a spiral path of destruction. … I read Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow about a year ago. A beautifully tragic story that made an impression on me. I was hoping to get that same vibe from The Glass Girl, but I’m not into Bella’s character. The writing is superior. Unfortunately, the writing voice isn’t reaching my standards of reading. … This is an important story for a teenager or young adult who is struggling with addiction. This story illustrates the process of destruction and recovery. I appreciated the process although I’m not in the mind set to find it useful in my life at my age. At least the information is available in case I need to forward it someone in need. I had to read in short increments of time. I know this book will help a lot of young adults struggling with addiction. It’s written for those who need to hear these words. The experiences of these young adults will make an impression on someone’s life. The process Kathleen Glasgow constructed during rehab was magnificent. The message was delivered loud and clear and for that I’m grateful for Bella’s story.

Realistic Fiction
Kathleen Glasgow’s books are realistic page-turners. I was pleasantly surprised by how she wrote the characters and what they go through. I like that there’s not a nice, neat ending.

Intense
This literary work stands out as one of the most compelling novels I have encountered this year. Its authentic depiction of grief, adolescent angst, anxiety, and addiction is a compelling read. The gripping portrayal of addiction, its physical manifestations, and the challenges faced by those struggling with temptation and unsupportive environments is emotionally resonant. It is a poignant and emotionally taxing narrative of a courageous young woman navigating the complexities of life’s challenges. The world can indeed be a harsh and unforgiving place.

Kathleen Glasgow is an "auto-buy" for me, and I had been waiting for this book all summer. I was not disappointed. The author knows how to deep-dive into sensitive issues with intelligence and compassion, and there is never a preachy or biased slant to her novels. She tells it like it is. Her characters are nuanced, flawed, relatable, and real. In this novel, we get to know Bella, who, at fifteen, has come to rely on alcohol to get her through her difficult life. A sensitive person, Bella is the one "who does everything." She looks after her complicated little sister, Ricci. She is the mediator for her divorced parents, and she is the friend who steps up. Every time. But when her beloved grandmother passes away and her boyfriend breaks up with her for being "too much," Bella's already unhealthy relationship gains traction. And like every runaway train, there comes a point where it runs off the tracks. That moment comes for Bella, leaving her publicly humiliated, injured, and ostracized from her friend group. An intervention follows, and Bella finds herself in a facility with many other teens--a place that will supposedly rehabilitate her. What follows is a roller coaster of ups and downs, as Bella learns to put herself first for the first time ever. I listened to this book on audio, and the narrator, Gail Shalan, was absolutely incredible. She gave me chills, tears, and goosebumps throughout the entire performance. She was perfect for Bella's voice. And now I must wait for Kathleen Glasgow to write her next masterpiece. Five HUGE stars.
