Don't try to build a big fire at once. start by adding small tweegs and add bigger brances to build a bigger fire. start the fire away from the wind. **Q: What is the shelf life of this?** A: Essentially forever... I have had this for years and it still works great **Q: How do I safely store this in a smaller container? Ie what type of container would be best?** A: I’m not a chemist or a chemical expert, so take my advice with that in mind. 1) cooglans paste is an EXTREME eye irritant, so transferring the paste must be done carefully. I used a high pressure medical syringe with a heavy turkey basting needle to keep the stuff from bubbling in the new container. 2) cooglans is obviously highly flammable, so care must be taken so it must not be allowed to come into contact with any surprise flames,sparks, cinders, etc. 3) it is a petroleum jelly like substance that has the potential to become more viscous with increasing its temperature, so imo it should be stored lid up, especially if there is a new container. 4) I used small glass vials with a very secure screw on lid that contains about 1/2 a tablespoon. 5) I’m not a chemist but imo the glass container is less likely to be corroded by the petroleum nature of the paste. 6) a little of the stuff goes a long way, and if you aren’t lighting wet wood, as in a really large wet log, a small amount is good for the mini survival kit, camping kit etc. 7) if there is any chance your glass vial might break, I’d put a layer of tape around the glass to prevent glass shards from floating around in your backpack, go bag, etc. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. *by U***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 March 2015* I recently bought a new Coleman peak one stove and decided rather than using unleaded fuel I would switch to Aspen 4.Aspen is a much cleaner petrol with a lot of additives taken out of it,it doesn't smell as bad as unleaded and doesn't clog up stoves.I decided to switch fuels because ordinary car petrol aggravates my asthma.Well the problem is Aspen just doesn't light very easily I was getting a yellow flame which was shooting up singeing the hair on my face.I thought I would try priming the stove which is something I have never had to do before but couldn't find the Optimus priming paste.I came across this on a bush craft forum so did a search for it on Amazon.I works surprisingly and solved the flaring up problem when lighting my stove.It also comes out of the tube easily without making a mess and doesn't smell bad either. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Great balls of fire... *by N***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 August 2015* Great stuff for lighting camp fires.
