Great lathe for beginning wood turners
This Jet lathe was a great choice for me, and I'm pleased that I bought it rather than a less expensive competitor with nothing but belts for speed adjustments. I'd done spindle turning on a very long, very heavy lathe, but decided on this model to try bowl and vase turning. The electronic speed adjustment dial makes all the difference for a beginner, and I haven't had to change from the middle belt position for any of my projects so far. Accessories are easy to find for this lathe, and the one-inch 8 tpi shaft makes it easy to use chucks and plates already among my tools. With limited space in my shop I also needed a benchtop lathe that was fairly easy to move, and this Jet lathe, while no lightweight, can sit in a limited space on any solid work surface. I'd wondered about the fairly short length between points, but the tailstock slides off easily and back on just as easily, so it stays out of the way when hollowing out a bowl.A well-designed lathe that's been a pleasure to use, and one I'd recommend to anyone.

Quality
This lathe arrived today and I am very pleased. This is my 3rd lathe and I purchased it to replace my Laguna 12 16 midi. I also have a full size Nova. The quality of the Jet is outstanding. Quiet yet powerful and well machined. Superb performance and stable even without bolting to the workbench. Amazon shipping was fast and reliable. Not one blemish on the carton. Needless to say the machine was in pristine condition. Amazon had the best price available. Oh, marketing to first time turners, the owner's manual even explains turning techniques. Jet covers all the bases.

So far so good.
I’ve only had it for a few days now so it’s possible my review will change but I’m upgrading from a 13” Wen to this and WOW the difference is beyond significant. I’m not sure how to describe it other than this just feels so much more solid and professional. One thing I was concerned about before buying was the manual belt changing thinking it would be a hassle to change it all the time. However, each belt setting has a pretty big range so I’m not sure I’ll ever really take it off of the middle speed.

Excellent mid size lathe
Excellent mid size lathe. Great for smaller to midsize pieces. Has a 1" spindle; so if you want to use a Nova Chuck as an anchor device on your large spindle - you need to get the Nova Chuck with the 1" diameter insert. The lathe is sturdy, quite, and powerful. Is easy to use and comes with a comprehensive user's manual, making it a great first lathe for beginner wood-turners.

Great Lathe!!!
Love this lathe! I have never owned a lathe before and this is the perfect beginner/intermediate lathe. It does everything that I have asked it to do and more.I have been using it for about 3 months now and I haven't had any issues with it at all. Good power for the size of the lathe and just a great set up in general. Turned anything from pens to goblets and lidded jars. Really like the variable speed option. For most of my stuff, I set the belt on the middle speed option and adjust the speed accordingly, using the dial. ONLY thing that I wish that this lathe had was reverse. When I am sanding, I can turn the lathe by hand in the opposite direction and I can feel where the wood isn't as smooth going in reverse.Overall, an absolutely amazing lathe. Definitely would buy again, but hopefully won't need to!

Works great
I had sold my large 12 inch wood lathe a few years ago when we downsized and I missed it. I got thinking that I seldom made anything too big and this looked like something I could find a place for in my very small shop. It works very well. I had heard that these variable speed lathes lacked power but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It has plenty of power and maintains speed very well.

Great mini lathe
I’ve turned a lot of items with this word life, the motor went out on me. I contacted the company they sent me a replacement right away. Since then I’ve moved up to the larger 16 inch lathe. I like the variable speed on both of them and then I can enter change my Chuck’s back-and-forth and work on multiple Wood Turning’s
