Pleased! Sharp, comfortable handle, snugly fitting sheath.
I was looking to buy a ceramic utility knife and compared several brands of ceramic knives including Kyocera, Cuisinart, Newport, Forever, and Jaccard knifes. The features that were important to me:1) 4"-5" inch utility knife2) Sheath to keep the very sharp blade covered for safety3) Ergonomic handle which protects the knuckle from the blade4) Good performance based on other people experiencesI started looking at Kyocera knifes but the handle shape and the lack of sheath lead me to this Jaccard knife that fit all of my requirements. I have used it for a week now, and I am very pleased. It is very sharp and easy to handle, comfortable to hold and it fits snugly into its sheath for storage. I've never sliced apples as thinly as I can do with this knife. The price was not the primary considerations, but I liked that it fell in the middle of the price range for the ceramic knives of this size. I think it is a good value.I am attaching a collage of three photos:1) Photo #1 show the under side of the handle. I find it to be very comfortable.2) Photo #2 shows the knife next to the sheath on a ruler. You can see that the knife is 4 inches and the handle is slightly over 4 inches.3) Photo #3 shows the knife in its sheath. The sheath goes on easy, but stays fairly tight. If I hold the knife with the point down the sheath does not slip off.A ceramic knife does have limitations. It works very well on fruits, vegetables, and boneless meat. But it should not be used to cut bones as this is like to chip the knife. It also should not be used to cut frozen foods. The knife should not be used for prying things open or other tasks that would cause the knife to flex. Finally, the instructions say to use the knife only on wooden or plastic boards and not use it to cut on glass, stone, marble or tile.A nice feature of the knife (since it is not metal) is that it is rust free and it does not transfer metals to foods you cut, and it is the metals which cause foods like apples to brown. The Jaccard knifes come with lifetime warranty replacement guarantee. Should the knife becomes damaged for any reason, Jaccard will replace it for free with "no questions asked". To activate the warranty you need to register within 90 days of purchasing the knife. To make a claim you need to obtain an authorization number and return the knife along with $5 check to cover return shipping. The warranty is satisfied with one replacement (i.e. the replacement knife cannot be returned for the third knife). Contact number for warranty replacements is 1-866-4478-7373.Ceramic Knives maintain their factory edge 15 times longer than stainless steel. If you feel your knife needs sharpening Jaccard will sharpern the knife at no charge. The $5 shipping charge is mentioned for replacements, and even though it is not mentioned explicitly for resharpenining I suspect it would apply to re-sharpening as well. Contact number for blade sharpening is 1-866-4478-7373.overall, I am pleased with the knife and recommend it.Ali Julia review

Very good, but not perfect
With my own ceramic knives still being in storage across the Atlantic I was looking for a good interim solution. This knife is a very good solution for my problem. I like the non-slippery grip and the size of this knife and therefore use it a lot. Only downside is that it is not as sharp as my other ceramic knives. But it does a pretty good job, so I am happy with this purchase.

Make great steak knives!
These are perfect size and price for steak knives--long enough for convenient use but short enough not to fall off the dinner plate. We have reordered several times for "hostess gifts"--not extravagent, but definitely appreciated. For those not familiar with these new "glass blades", VERY vital not to twist or pry in use. They have several redeeming features, but will break off suddenly if abused by twisting, and can easily lose the tip--they are not a makeshift screwdriver.Technically, they can be sharpened, but the high-tech sharpeners are expensive and in my opinion it's cheaper to keep a mental fence at the top of the cliff rather than pay for a hospital at the bottom, if you get my drift.Needless to say, keep these blades well away from children. Although the included vinyl slip on guard looks handy, we prefer storing them in a slotted wood- or plastic knife rack.

Caprese Salad
Nothing gives me the thin tomato slices like a quality ceramic knife. And that sharp edge lasts for years. It works on the buffalo mozzarella but not as easily once you get to the last portion (you have to use more of press down motion rather than slicing) although it helps to dip the blade in warm water. This knife has a non-slip handle with an additional finger notch. What really stands out is the included sheath. These knives can chip and are extremely sharp. Too sharp to let bang around in a drawer or to carelessly reach for. The blue sheath stands out and protects both you and the knife. Excellent! I have another at work because they don't permit dangerous "metal" knives. The ceramic is sharper but they have no problem with it. So, I get to have a superior knife I'd pick first anyway for cutting up my lunch vegetables plus kudos for being a good citizen. Nice bonus! While I have a set of expensive German knives (which cut beautifully when sharp), I still reach for this one first.

decent all around small knife
Looks good seems to be well constructed and cuts well. I think the edge is beveled as a work blade as it failed my acid test for sharpness in that I can not shave with it. It does how ever cut steak quite nicely as well as raw carrots which after all is what I bought it for.

Love it and would buy again.
My personal preferences are the 6 inch but this one has worked well for me. I use this more for fruit than anything else and I love it. I only handwash the knife to keep them sharp and nice and keep it in it's sleeve when not in use.I have tried a few other brands and they always go dull on me quickly. This has remained sharp doing all the same things that the dull ones do.

Terrific little knife
I have used a few ceramic knives and they have been okay but this one is really superior and has a handle that fits my hand perfectly.Having arthritis makes it difficult to hold on to some knife handles - the designer of this one may not have had that in mind but it certainly works well for me.The blade is extremely sharp and cuts through hard parsnips and soft tomatoes with equal ease.
