First off, both her and I love the illustrations and pictures in this book. They almost look like watercolor sketches which gives the book a very happy and kid friendly sense. Secondly, the story of course matches perfectly with the movie, and keeps all the good details of the movie that I fell in love with as a young kid myself. And lastly, this book reads really easily and fluidly. It doesn’t take long to read at bedtime to my 3 year old, which is great because you want to instill that love of literature in your child but you also don’t want to spend 20 minutes reading your kid a good book. The illustrations are adorable and detailed, and the story is smartly condensed, making excellent trims for efficiency and cleanly excising all the moments that might be too awkward to explain to young ones, like Libyan terrorists or sexual assault. Even so, the book is long enough not to shortchange the story. Thank you to Kim Smith and the others behind this book for doing it right! Edit: my kids are 5 and just under 2 and both love the book, which is nice since they are too young to get through the movie.
