Wow!
Just after the Sennheiser True Wireless Momentum 4 earbuds dethroned my Bose QC Ultra earbuds, mainly for the wireless charging case and punchy sound, the Denon Perl Pro came on sale. What was I supposed to do than to try this mythical contender that's relatively hard to find in the wild? Anyway, my home entertainment system is completely Denon and it never let me down. What really sparked my interest beyond that, however, is the fantastic smart speaker Home 250 which impresses me with the crystal clear sound, even compared to an Amazon Echo Studio and Bose Portable Smart Speaker in the same household. So, time to try out the Denon Perl Pro, with the 'Pro' being important for lossless codec support and custom sound profiles. The Denon Perl Pro is visually very similar to the standard model. The charging case is smaller than the Bose QC Ultra and the Sennheiser TWM4, but still larger than the Apple AirPods Pro 2. That may matter more to some than others. However, the Bose QC Ultra case being the only one of the mentioned examples that doesn't charge wirelessly despite feeling arguably the largest. Where the Denon case fails, however, is the ergonomics of removing the earbuds from it. It's easily the worst ergonomics of all four examples. Not a deal breaker but feels like an oversight nevertheless. The size and weight of the earbuds are sometimes mentioned as a negative. Neither bother me much, but if those criteria are important to you, it may be the main reason to look elsewhere. Maybe make sure to actually try them as this is a rather subjective thing. The large circular design sure looks different. The fit out of the box suits me just fine, just like the Bose and the Sennheiser. That is something I cannot say about the AirPods which never really fit me well. The touch buttons can be customized, with one odd difference: Tap-and-hold is reserved to reset/restart the earbuds, a unique feature, but also unavailable to the common "Volume Up/Down" function. The Tap-tap-hold is less intuitive and not always easy to execute. The iPhone app is decent, even if a bit temperamental, as the earbuds shut down in the case and become invisible to the app. Reconnecting then takes a few seconds, by far longer than any of the other earbuds I own. Once connected, you get basic settings in the home screen and most options are hidden away in the settings. There is no conversation awareness, a specialty of the AirPods, but spatial audio, environmental awareness (pass thru) are. The latter isn't configurable as to how to mix the environment with the music, but the spatial audio is easily the best I have heard so far. This is mostly since it doesn't try too hard to fake space, but is a subtle impact. That also means that audio quality actually improves, unlike the Bose QC Ultra implementation that's best when turned off. The ANC performance of the Bose QC Ultra (and AirPod Pro 2) are unmatched by the Denon Perl Pro (and the Sennheiser TWM4), but fairly useful in normal use. I don't use earbuds for making calls and cannot comment on the microphones in either of these earbuds. THE stand-out feature of the Denon Perl Pro is the Advanced Acoustic Technology (AAT). What sounds like a marketing term is surprisingly effective. The app plays sounds and measures "how you hear music". That's nothing short of black magic and sure worth a skeptical eye. The already good sounding earbuds really come alive with a customized profile. It was truly jaw-dropping how much more dynamic these sound with the personalized profile activated. Up to three profiles can be defined and stored. Just make sure to follow instructions to get a good seal and be quiet during the measurement. For me, the deciding factor was the deal during Prime Day(s) to give it a try and I do not regret it. It's easily one of my favorite earbuds. At full price it may still be a good choice, but less of a slam dunk.

Sound personalisation puts these headphones in a totally different league to other earbuds
I was an early adopter of Nura when they first came out with the huge over ear headphones with the ground breaking personal profile for your hearing. But they were heavy and did not sit well in my ears and I ended up going back to Sennheiser and Bose and Apple, with various incarnations and noise cancelling options. I saw Nura bring out a pro earbud and was on the verge of buying them when Denon stepped in and took over Nura and the technology. So I took the plunge a few weeks ago. The basic sound profile was good but no better than my Bose QC II or AirPods Max or Senneiser Momentum 3. I realised I was still searching around for apps to EQ my listening experience on the Mac or iPhone or even Android. After a few days of finding a quiet place to run the sound profile (it doesn't work through the firewall where I live) I was completely bowled over. I listen to everything from chamber music, large orchestral, jazz, funk, rock and now with a sound profile for my ageing ears (and too many years playing bassoon in orchestras in front of the trumpets and timpani) I am giving these 5 stars all round. My only problem with all in ear buds is that my ear canal is small but my ears big and getting a fit that won't drop out when I lean down or work their way out after walking around is a challenge. I got on a plane and had one drop out under the seat as I lent down. But that is not Denon's problem - the only time I solved that was with a personal ear piece fitted to my ear (for in ear and for sound reduction when playing) and I sadly left these in the pocket of a plane a few years ago (fitted to my Etymotics!). So I continue to research a size that won't fall out. The sound is absolutely incredible and the app allows me to control EQ and the customisation of the different buttons and options. And once not connected to the app they stay on these settings when paired with iPad, Mac, CD player (remember these?) even with my old iPod with a Bluetooth transmitter. And unlike Bose which forget the pairing at the drop of a hat, the Denon Pearl remember ALL my devices and switch between them without having to repair. I was listening on my iPhone when a call came in on my work Galaxy phone and hey presto it took the call. The noise cancelling is fab (even at the airport) and the other end of the call say they can hear me perfectly (which doesn't happen on AirPods Pro or Bose Quietcomfort II). I don't feel the need to use the AirPods Max and have the extra weight on my head and in fact going back to any other headphone without that personalised profile is frustrating as for my ears there is far too much range clutter going on. I don't know if for young ears without any of life's hearing loss the difference would be so "night and day" but for me I can only say that if you haven't tried these with the Adaptive Acoustic Technology Hearing Profile (MassimoAAT) then you are missing the biggest leap forward in sound I have experienced in YEARS. Using Tidal where you can download high quality (but very large) files I am hearing things I have NEVER heard on classic albums like Steely Dan's Aja or in a Mahler symphony. Thank you Nura for the development and welcome Denon to something that will give a lot of pleasure to a lot of listeners!

It sounds really good and detailed.
They have a very good sound, even without an equalizer. These are the first headphones of this type in which I use an equalizer to a minimum extent. The ear tips are made of a material that causes severe discomfort in my ears. Despite the good seal, after an hour of use I start to feel significant discomfort. After another hour, I stop listening because of the intense burning sensation. I don't have this problem with MTW3/MTW4. Additionally, wings adapters are more of a hindrance than they are helpful in my case. After removing the wings adapters and replacing the ear tips with spinfit ones, I can use them all day without any problems. The batteries work great, 9.5 hours at 50% volume in normal settings, not in the eco version. Taking them out of the charging case and putting them in your ears is not pleasant. Because they have slippery and round edges. You can't turn off the sound signals completely, and you can't deactivate ANC without transparency mode. These two functions work together, I hate ANC so I don't have transparency mode either. The rest of the touch functions can be set, but according to Denon rules, not like in MTW3/MTW4. They have a very good Bluetooth range, better than MTW3/MTW4.The application also works very well, although it loads very slowly. Which one would I choose between MTW3/ MTW4? A difficult decision when it comes to practicality in use without modifications and the price, certainly MTW3, not MTW4, in which senncheiser has worsened the sound quality in new models. Why did this happen? I'm not sure, maybe it was to reduce white noise in transparency mode? For me, better sound is more important than light white noise. It can be compared to Dolby B in old tape recorders. I have never used this function except to test how it works. Because it worsened the sound quality and reduced the noise in return. Everyone must decide personally what is more important to them. The first pair of DENON headphones came defective, one of the headphones had humming and noise when the ANC function was turned on. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if it weren't for the fact that this function activates itself during the sound profile settings. The next couple doesn't have this problem. Additionally, when using ANC, the bass is clearly boosted, but ANC does not activate itself the next time you turn on these headphones. This was the case with the Sony WF-1000XM3 and this function could only be turned off from the application. That's why, among other things, I also said goodbye to Sony forever, because I believe that using a product should be a pleasure and not a fight against the manufacturers' ideas. Update: Unfortunately, after all the tests, the result dropped to one star. Because all seven sets of these headphones that I tested had faulty microphones or electronics on one side. Why didn't I write about this earlier? Because I very rarely use the phone call function through headphones. I discovered this only when the phone rang while I was listening to music. The person on the other end couldn't understand what I was saying so I thought there might be a problem with pairing. I restarted the headphones but it didn't help, so I restarted the phone but it didn't help either. I did everything I could to rule out faulty headphones but nothing helped. So I tested both headphones on the dictaphone in the phone and it turned out that one side was faulty. When I use the good headphones, phone calls and recordings on the dictaphone sound very good. When I use the faulty one, the sound is very muffled. After connecting the faulty headphone and the good one, the faulty one interferes with the work of the good one and the sound is muffled again despite the fact that the good headphone is also working at the same time. On top of all this, you can't use the application without connecting to the Denon server. I thought it was just a trick but no, it really happens. The ear canal test is complete nonsense. I swapped the headphones in my ears from the left to the right side and the graph was the same despite changing ears in all seven sets I tested. Denon as you probably guessed this is my last attempt at these and other models of your company's headphones.

the goldilocks balance between sound quality and fit stability
I have a pair of earbuds with exceptional sound quality, but they won't stay in my ears. I have a pair that stay in my ears, but don't sound so great. These Denon PerL Pro offer the best of both worlds. While not providing the greatest audio depth, they do a great job of providing most of the subtlety of classical music. There is no manual equalizer, but the "Adaptive Active" technology does a great job of matching their sound output to my audio needs. Even though they are slightly on the large size for an earbud design, the way they fit in your ear, and their overall balance provide great stability. I can walk my dog out in the field or in the park without worrying about these falling out with a misstep. I would ding this one star overall for the charging case design. These are already -large- so what would one more mm depth matter to the case design. I use foam earbuds for noise isolation and increased grip security. Standard tips won't fit in the case (the lid won't close completely), so I have to use shallow tips. These don't provide quite the noise isolation as the standard tips, and for future design changes I'd suggest a little more generous case size. I mean, it's obvious they're not going for the minimalist design anyway.

Denon nailed it: Lossless Codecs over Bluetooth / Personalized Sound / User-friendly App
For those of you looking for lossless codecs over Bluetooth, the Denon PerL Pro is a superior choice. 10mm titanium dynamic driver provides a huge soundstage, remarkable instrument separation, and tremendous bass response. The build quality is solid. The Masimo Adaptive Acoustic Technology (AAT) sonically maps your ears to create a custom listening profile. I'm an audio snob, and in my opinion, these are the best-sounding Bluetooth earbuds at this price. You could spend more money & go with the Bowers & Wilkins Pi8 or Noble Audio FoKus. But the custom listening profile coupled with the lossless codec makes the PerL Pro a solid contender. For iPhone users, you'll need a USB-C dongle, like the Questyle QCC Pro, to bypass Apple's lo-fi codec (AAC) & unlock high-fidelity codecs (aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive). I also recommend Comply TWo-220-C eartips to enhance the noise isolation. Don't be afraid of the unconventional aesthetics of the large circular design. You're not buying for the way they look; you're buying for the way they sound: immersive, balanced, stunning.

Good true wireless earbuds, terrible quality control
After looking at other user reviews for these earbuds, there's a small chance you will get a pair that will stop working in 1-3 weeks. I've only had mine for a week, and the left earbud has stopped working altogether. The left earbud no longer pairs with Bluetooth, doesn't respond to touch controls, and doesn't even get recognized by the charger. It's completely dead. In the attached photos — when the case is closed — there should be 3 lights indicating battery level: one for the left earbud, one for the right earbud, and one for the charging case. While the case is open, there should be 2 lights: one light for the battery status for the left earbud, and one for the right earbud. As you can see, the light for the left earbud no longer turns on. I barely used these earbuds before the left one stopped working. I never even worked out or broke a sweat in them, never dropped them or mishandled them. The malfunctioning earbud problem is likely an issue with firmware or hardware that hasn't been addressed at the manufacturing stage. While these earbuds worked, they sounded good, not great. These are rebranded NuraTrue Pro before Denon bought them out. Out-of-the-box on their default sound profile, these earbuds sounded terrible. It sounded like an almost completely flat frequency response curve. Not the type of good flat that you'd want from studio monitors, just completely anemic. Masimo's (Denon's parent company) Adaptive Acoustic Technology (AAT) actually works in creating a custom user profile that matches how your specific ears hear sound. It compensated for frequencies that my ears didn't pick up well on, and tuned down frequencies that I was more sensitive to. Unfortunately this made my custom AAT profile sounded dark and somewhat muddy. The AAT testing showed that I was really sensitive to high frequencies (treble), so it gave me a custom profile with very low high-end and high mids. I had to use the Denon app's 5-band EQ to boost the treble up 80%. I would've liked to be able to manually fine-tune my AAT profile after the test to get it sound like how I wanted to. But my only 2 choices were the terribly flat sounding default state, or the overly hampered treble of my custom AAT profile. Besides not being able to dial in the exact frequency attenuations that I wanted, the overall sound profile of these earbuds is very detailed. Bass, mids, and highs are all accounted for, and nothing gets drowned out in the mix. I could hear imperfections in songs, something that's usually only for wired high impedance headphones or IEMs that need a DAC amp to drive. The active noise canceling is average. It does a good job at canceling the low drones and hums of engines, thumps and thuds. But anything in the mid-range still comes through a lot, and it sounds like it's coming through a high pass filter. The active passthrough mode is also average. All frequencies come through without any noticeable delay, but all of the low end is completely gone. But human voices still sound good. My gripe with using these features in the Denon app is how they try to use different "user friendly" terms instead of industry-wide terms that more people would be familiar with. Like active passthrough is called "Social Mode", and the "Immersion mode" slider is just a mid-bass boost. Having more clear and concise descriptions for these would be better, instead of trying to figure them out what they mean from other users online. My other issue with the app is that the active passthrough and active noise cancellation are tied together. You have to have both enabled or both disabled. And you can only disable/enable ANC in the app. With all these flaws aside, I could adapt to them and still EQ to mostly what I wanted. But I cannot recommend these earbuds until Denon figures out what is causing the left (or sometimes right) earbud to randomly stop working.

Amazing sound quality and battery. The rest is terrible.
Amazing sound quality, the rest is terrible. I've had these earbuds for over a year now. I'm highly impressed with the sound quality and the sound technology which is why I gave this three stars not two. The battery life is also a strong positive. The rest of the buds are mediocre at best. The touch controls are arguably awful and never work when you need them too. The buds don't fit well at times and after an hour or so of listening make your ears hurt. The case if dropped immediately throws the buds across the floor. The buds are delicate and break parts if dropped. I would probably not buy these again as you can get better sound quality from a pair of cheaper over ear headphones.

See "Magic in Your Ears" Review
All I can say is WOW!! The app for these Earbuds is so far ahead of any app for earbuds I've used. It learns how you hear music and makes adjustments similar to an equalizer based of what i can only guess is the response time it takes for the low pitched sounds all the way to higher pitched sounds to bounce off your eardrums and return to the microphones on the Earbuds. I'm not using my review to criticize other brands like some people do because everyone is looking for certain qualities. The most important quality to me is how good do they sound? I still use a free downloaded equalizer to tweak different types of music because I am a perfectionist when it comes to listening to my music. Call quality is not important to me when purchasing Earbuds. I could care less about call quality. I spend 95% of my time listening to music with my Earbuds. If i cared about call clarity and how great a phone call sounds I would waste money on one of those one ear bluetooth wireless receivers for phone calls. If you want more details read the review about the Denon PerL Pro Earbuds by "shadow_shooter" 😶🌫️ you will understand why I was so anxious to try these Earbuds. What was even more amazing was that the Earbuds were on sale for 50% off!! I still would have purchased them at their full price, because I am obsessed with listening to music as if I need full sized speakers attached to my head while I'm listening to music. These come close to looking like mini speakers when they are in my ears, but I'm not worried about appearance because it's like I'm in another world when I'm listening to music. I put a penny in the picture I took so you could get an idea of the size of the Earbud, but I don't care about the size because they sound GREAT! The size of the Earbuds is one of the reasons they have such a rich full sound and that includes a rich bass sound too. They were on sale for 50% off on the Denon website too. This is probably why Amazon had them on sale for 50% off. Shadow_shooter also mentions the Denon App for these Earbuds. The App is ridiculously ahead of any wireless headphone App I've ever used. The App as shadow_shooter mentions is amazing. I am not an expert regarding Earbuds, or the Apps they use, but you need to see/hear what the Denon App does during setup and the individualized personal sound the App creates when you're setting up your Denon Earbuds. Now I need to find something else to waste money on because I don't need to keep going on my endless search of wasting money looking for my perfect set of Earbuds. I finally found them when I bought the Denon PerL Pro True Wireless Earbuds. Thank you "shadow_shooter" for taking the time to do your review! I never would have considered these, but your review changed my mind. If they are still on sale buy them because you will regret it. If they aren't on sale on Amazon, check the Denon website too. Just in case Denon has them on sale. Update: These are tied for #2 out of the Earbuds I own. The Dennon Earbuds are great and if you try them you won't be disappointed. I ended up buying 3 pairs just in case they stop making them. They are tied with my Bowers & Wilkins. My new #1 Earbuds are Devialet Gemini II. The Devialet are unbelievable and just need to be heard to understand why I am glad I bought them. I thought they might go on sale, but i got tired of waiting. Now if they go on sale I will buy backup pairs just in case. All these Earbuds still need an additional equalizer app downloaded from the app store in addition to the app for the Earbuds. The equalizer app I am using is free and has more frequency adjustments and a volume booster too. I paid for a equalizer app that only had 4 band adjustments and the free one I found has 10 bands to adjust with only an occasional ad, but the ads are so infrequent it's like you paid for the equalizer app. I've wanted to purchase the app only because it's so good I think the developers deserve to be paid for this app, but i couldn't find a buy option on the app itself or on the website.

Wow, just wow. Compares to my $700 IEMs paired with a $300 DAC
Update June 2026: since I'm somewhat obsessed, I recently also bought the Sennheiser tws momentum 4 at about 50% off just for fun. I give them a 9/10 but the Denons are a 9.5/10 for me. I feel a majority of people would prefer the Denons, especially if sound, battery life and smaller case are important. I find the Senns are maybe a better "all arounder" though with slightly better build quality and noise cancelling, comfort for working out in my case too. The Denons are often cheaper though and are some of my only iems (tws or wired) that give me the impression that I'm listening to my 10K stereo. They definitely have a wow effect when it comes to separation and staging. Omg. Original review : If you love audio quality and it’s top criteria in a set of TWS ANC buds, treat yourself to these babies and thank me later. Good ANC and other features too. After going through three pairs of TWS, two being ANC (1More TWS ANC and Kef Mu3) over the last 6+ years and going deeper and deeper into the audiophilia rabbit hole, spending tens of thousands of dollars on IEMs, headphones, DACs, speakers, amps and PA systems, etc. since, I’m absolutely stunned with these. I have to remind myself to take breaks and even long for reasons to put them back into my ears. In fact, I often wish I had them in my pocket when it’s not the case. After much research and patience, I had short listed these along with all the other top tier TWS ANC buds but was especially eyeing the Status Between Pro ANC’s. When these Denons went on sale for Black Friday at only $30 more than the Status’ I pulled the trigger. They sound decent right out of the box but it’s true that the ‘’Dirac for your ears’’ personalized tuning combined with the spatial audio make all the difference. That’s the wow factor. Like many other users, I performed 3 ear scans and gravitated towards to the one I felt was best (first one in my case)… I then added a little upper EQ boost for what I essentially feel is very close to perfection. Deep, immersive bass. Clear mid-range. Tonal accuracy. Smooth but detailed high end. Sparkle without sheen or sibilance. Staging, seperation and layering is just beautiful. I’d say basically on par with my 700$ wired IEMs + $300 dac. These babies really do sing and I’ve only experienced them via AAC from my iPhone! I do plan on buying the FiiO BT11 when it becomes available though. I also love the customizable controls and the multipoint (I listen to Spotify or Amazon HD from my personal iPhone and do my Teams meetings and phone calls from my work laptop). Battery life is generous enough for my needs. Transparency mode is good and definitely useable, it just doesn’t feel as natural as my Kef Mu3’s which are close to invisible but it’s definitely better than my 1More’s. ANC, connectivity, reliability, and call quality is much better on the Denon’s than both my Kef’s and 1More’s. Comfort is also in between my Kefs and 1More’s but I may just need to try more appropriate tips and fins for my ears. I’m not sure about running with them as there seems to be an odd feeling and noise with heavy steps. Again, this could always just come down to fit for me. Bottom line, I got them for communiting, working, calls and just enjoying music and they tick all those boxes.

Wow!!!
I have owned the MTW4 for a while now which have been the best earbuds that I've tried until I got the Perl Pros. The sound is just perfect. Good clarify across the frequency range and they have an immersive feel which is hard to find in any other earbuds. I did also purchase the AZ80 which are equally good, but the Perl Pros immersiveness cannot be replicated although the soundstaging feel like they are neck to neck. So I use the MTW4 and AZ80 as my daily drivers and the Perl Pros if I just want purley enjoy my music. For the price point they are now they are with it.

Excellent sound for a reasonable price
I have tried these over the weekend and can safely say they provide a truly excellent sound quality - on par with the study headphones like Sony 1000xm-series. The magic comes from the ear calbration feature that provides an amazing sound that is balanced, warm and natural. Each ear is calibrated separately and in my case i got slightly different results for L and R respectively. Noice calibration, and the "social feature" where you tap the left plug to get a mode where you can speak and socialize also works really well. I do recommend them. Excellent value for the price.
