With Ringo, Ringo Starr finally put his solo career in gear in 1973, after serving notice with back-to-back Top Ten singles in 1971 and 1972 that he had more to offer than his eccentric first two solo albums. Ringo was a big-budget pop album produced by Richard Perry and featuring Ringo's former Beatles bandmates as songwriters, singers, and instrumentalists. On no single track did all four appear, though George Harrison played the guitars on the John Lennon-penned leadoff track "I'm the Greatest," with Lennon playing piano and singing harmony. But it wasn't only the guests who made Ringo a success: Ringo advanced his own cause by co-writing two of the album's Top Ten singles, the number one "Photograph" and "Oh My My." The album's biggest hit was a second chart-topper, Ringo's cover of the old Johnny Burnette hit "You're Sixteen." Songs like "Have You Seen My Baby," a Randy Newman song with guitar by Marc Bolan, and Ringo and Vini Poncia's "Devil Woman" were just as good as the hits. Ringo's best and most consistent new studio album, Ringo represented both the drummer/singer's most dramatic comeback and his commercial peak. The original ten-track 1973 album got even better in 1991 as a 13-track CD reissue, the bonus tracks including the 1971 gold single "It Don't Come Easy" and its B-side, "Early 1970," a telling depiction of Ringo's perspective on the Beatles breakup. Review: Arise Sir Ringo.you deserve it.for this L.p. & more - Have had this album, first on vinyl and now on cd,in my life since 1981 - to be precise: And it's certainly a worthy addition to my record collection. The 1973 release of Ringo; had Richard Perry producing, contributions from:John Lennon,George Harrison,Paul & Linda Mc cartney - no less.along with Marc Bolan,The Band,Klaus voorman,Billy Preston,Harry Nilsson,Nicky Hopkins - get the picture! Ringo and his pals all make wonderful contributions in the making of this amazing album. The opening track:I'm the greatest,is i'm sure a tongue in cheek resumé of Ringo's life up till that point.written by John Lennon - who contributes harmony vocals and piano,as well as George Harrison,Klaus Voorman and Billy preston;this is very nearly a Beatles reunion in the studio (guess who's missing?). The fine form continues with next track: the brass laden; Have you seen my baby standing in the shadow - a Randy Newman composition. The singles: photograph (marvellous sax solo by Bobby Keys),and Your sixteen are also excellent inclusions.one of the bonus tracks: Down and out,is interspersed among the original track listing, which works perfectly,i'd say. The fine form continues with the jolly: Oh my my,with backing vocals from the then much in demand session singer: Merry Clayton; the country music of Sunshine life for me,featuring The Band (minus Robbie Robertson); then the dreamy Six o'clock, with the McCartney's lending their hands - can't spot any flaws up to now folks! The jazzy - Step lightly with clarinets in there somewhere, with Ringo tap dancing no less. The rocky: Devil woman is up next, then the reflective closing track on the original album: You and me babe.this is Ringo thanking everyone who contributed to the album, through singing and his talky bit at the end.a very nice gesture and it works without being too syrupy.Cheers Ringo, you are a Star(r) - geddit! P.S.nearly forgot: the cd's last two songs are the bonus tracks; It don't come easy (brilliant song) and it's b-side Early 1970. P.P.S.the production:courtesy of Richard Perry,is excellent throughout - so is the sound quality.all done for now - thanks for your time. Review: A Classic - I had this in Vinyl when it first came out. I loved it. This issue has three bonus tracks on it from the same era. The first track was always rumoured to be the Beatles getting back together, but Paul couldn't make the recording, so they didn't. Great album.

Love Ringo! Great fun. Beautiful artwork.
Love Love Love. Ringo - and talented trio of John, Paul and George - plus Nilson, Klaus, Bolan, Randy Newman and most of The Band all chipping in. No, not that band! This is however an historic album as it is the nearest the Beatles ever came to recording in a studio together. It has a very american sound to the production which was done by the late, great, Richard Perry. Had the vinyl in 1973 and the lovely artwork booklet by Klaus, also included here. Nothing not to like here and a few tracks to love. Particularly I would highlight Photograph, composed by the duo of Starr/Harrison. There are also some good bonus tracks on this version, albeit they could have dropped the last song and replaced it with Back Off Boogaloo but that is a minor quibble.

His greatest album.
Hello, for years I have had the old L.P. of this album by Ringo, I always treasured the sketch book inside and also the fact that it was a Beatles reunion of sorts has John, Paul and George all contributed. So, my opinion only, but I rate this above all other Ringo albums so if you are missing this classic L.P. buy it now on the remastered C.D. Hope this is helpful to you, Deano.

The Essential Ringo
Get this on import, you won't be dissapointed. Ringo is a great record - maybe not to everyone's taste but at least you know what to expect from Ringo's singing with the Beatles! It is probably the only Ringo record you will ever need and complements a solo-Beatles collection really well. There is a continuity to feel (Possibly because all the other Beatles are there at some point), and style but Ringo is also somewhat of a musical bridge across the whole of the seventies. You heard it here first, Ringo is quite progressive. For me, it rounds of my collection of Beatles solo albums up to 1980, and if compilations are your thing, it's invaluable when playing around with the ex-Beatles solo years, meaning that on your computer at least, The Beatles can live on through this period. But on its own, its a really great, playable record, and well worth getting.

Ringo's Finest Hour
3 1/2 stars actually. After the gushing reviews of my fellow reviewers, I'm prompted to write a more realistic review of this record for anyone thinking of taking the plunge. Yes this is without any shadow of doubt,Ringo's finest work as a solo artist. Ringo was and is a very innivotive drummer (and anyone that has ever picked a pair of drumsticks will tell you that) and all round good egg. A great singer and songwriter,by his own admission, he ain't. In my opinion you have to be at least one those to make a truely great (5 star)album. That said, although this isn't a great album, it is a great album FOR RINGO. The trouble with not being a prolific writer is that you have to rely on others for the songs and the problem with that is you sometimes get left with songs that others have discarded as not being good enough. McCartney's "Six O'clock" is an example of this. Although a Macca cast off is a masterpiece by some other writers standards and Ringo does a great job with this song. The Lennon penned "I'm The Greatest" and "Photograph", co-written with Harrison are the best songs here and that is probably because both songs were written specifically for Ringo rather than being songs that they didn't want. I remember hearing "Your 16" on the radio,as a kid and thinking it was a great song back then.I didn't know it was a cover then, in fact i didnt know Ringo was a Beatle. It's still a great version. "Oh My My" a song co written by Ringo is a stomper with nonsense lyrics but lots of fun. Anyone that had read any of my other reviews will know that I'm not a great fan of extra tracks tacked onto the end of original album track listings. However when a bonus item is as good as "It Don't Come Easy" its hard not to approve. One gripe though, the final track on the LP was "You And Me Babe" which has a little spoken "credits" section at the end which a rendered pointless when they are followed by another 3 songs. All in all this is a very decent album. Not a great album but a good one. It's not one of the best Beatles solo albums so lets not get all gooey about it.How could it be? Look what it's up against !Does it compare with All Things Must Pass,Imagine,Plastic Ono Band, etc,no of course not. Its a decent record and certainly the best Ringo Starr solo album. This album would not appeal to anyone outside of the Beatles fraternity but for fans looking to discover Ringo's solo work this is the one to go for.

Davvero tanta bella roba, e pian piano sto recuperando i suoi meravigliosi album. Strepitoso, coinvolgente, unico e bizzarro.
