Set up easy, buttons, controls terible and what they do bad. Operating instructions not good. Screen not clear. Need to transfer photos to computer to see how they look. Would not buy again and may return. Will use couple more days. Like all these current electronics , smaller is not better . Have several Pentax cameras, good, not this one!

First off, this is not an single lens reflex. You can shoot great photos easily from the hip with automatic, manual or even construction mode. This kind of digital camera is great for hiking or doing a project that involves taking lots of small parts off. The rubberized cover is grippy and protects from liquids and shock. I love the carabineer and strap, I hook my thumb around the former and use the latter as a sling to stabilize my shots. The size is just right for my small hands and the weight is easy to get smooth shots and not fatigue your arms. This camera has been exposed to dirt, sandstorms and rain, yet the lens is still clear and the controls work just fine. A small downside of this point and shoot camera is that you have to remove the rubber cover to charge/upload photos/install SD card. The cover peels off quickly and holds up to multiple applications. All and all, if you just want a dedicated camera for work/play and you aren’t going to deep dive into photography SLR territory, this is a great buy. Get the hardened case to make transport of this unit worry free.

Not as good as the Ricoh WG Series, but they're no longer made. The camera is slower to react - shutter, zoom, etc. I was unable to find extra batteries and external charger, but perhaps they will be available in the future. Too bad that it doesn't take the same battery as the WG. The pictures that I took with the digital zoom were not great, and the mechanical zoom is only 4x. The camera is OK, but not great.

Took this little camera on a camping trip and must say I was impressed with it.

Beware! This is not a good camera and owning it has been a poor experience. I have previously owned Pentax film cameras and thought this Pentax would be a good choice. It’s not. I purchased the camera to document our snorkeling experiences on our Costa Rica trip. I downloaded the full manual and read it twice and practiced with it before we left. I had trouble with the auto focus resulting in poorly focused photos. I settled on one setting that worked OK but was still a poor second to my 9-year-old IPhone. On our first dive I set up the camera for underwater shooting and used it for about 45 minutes, diving no deeper then 6 feet. I found it difficult to adjust settings or view the screen well. The camera added an weird green hue to the photos. I am posting one of the best of the not-very-good photos. I cleaned and dried the camera as directed, not opening it until the camera was dry. A few days later, I tried it again with pretty much the same disappointing results. The next day, the camera would not turn on at all. I removed the battery and found it was corroded. At that time, I also noticed the lens was fogged over on the inside from condensation. Unfortunately, I am out of the return window so now will need to find out if Pentax will honor the warranty. I will add a follow-up review pending their response. I wish I had purchased a Chinese underwater point-and-shoot camera at fraction of the price.

Difficulty focusing underwater and not very sharp above

I’m a beginner and this has been probably one of the best purchases I’ve done in my life, I have a very outdoorsy lifestyle and I haven’t really taken it to a long hike yet cuz the weather is not great yet where I live, but I’ve been testing the camera a lot. I will say nighttime pictures are probably its worst, it takes good party pictures but if it’s a landscape it could be tricky, it also could be my lack of experience. It has a pretty good zoom for wildlife. It also can take good pictures of objects moving, I’m just not that good at it yet. Finally I haven’t tried the underwater feature but I’m excited to. The camera is compact and light. Overall I’m pretty satisfied, I have been using it since April. I’ll append some pictures

Used this camera for a few weeks and all the photos are blurry and unclear. You would think for a $400 camera you would get more than a month or two worth of use?. My kids cheap camera has out lasted this Pentax which is really disappointing. I would not recommend this camera as its poor quality and over priced for what you get.

Love this camera , great for outdoor adventures , took it swimming in a cave and worked great around water !
