Liftmaster EL1SS Telephone Entry System

The first one I bought was dead on arrival. Keypad didn't function. After returning it, got another one. It worked fine for about 1 year. Now, it won't properly communicate with the phone system in our home. All of our troubleshooting points to a problem with the EL1SS. My advice is to find another product.

We received this well packaged unit and installed it according to the supplied manual replacing my previous Crown Jewel access system. Having three wireless phones which are connected to the main phone line and none of this phones are ringing after pushing the call button at the unit. Furthermore there is no audible sound confirming that the unit is actually calling the house but it does and again only the mainline is ringing. The phone company checked all phone plugs in the house and all are properly working. You can't get anybody from Liftmaster on the phone, only prerecorded messages suggesting to contact a local authorized dealer for Liftmaster. In other words a customer support is none existing. There is no trouble shooting page in the manual. I have contacted a few dealers in our area but they don't know this unit or would not work on it because it was not purchased from them. I hope somebody familiar with the problem I am having will contact me with some advise. Until then I would not never recommend to anybody buying this unit which actually looks nice but just does not work satisfactory at all. If you want something better than this unit just pay a little more and be happy. Surely I am not. That's why I can only give one star.

I bought one of these a few years ago to replace my unprotected crown jewel which was hit by lightning. It has worked well but all of these units are susceptible to lightning strikes. You absolutely must install a surge suppressor on BOTH the power and signal wiring or the unit will be compromised easily. I used a Ditek DTK 4LVXR which is designed for this purpose.
