Problems with this unit
The enclosure looks nice, it has a fan that helps cool the drives when you use them for an extended period. The problem is that the unit goes to sleep and it does not initialise after that. So it looks as if it gets disconnected when you look at your usb devices. I tried with a older WD Nas drives, the red series, and even with those it goes to sleep and then becomesinaccessible. May be a firmware update can fix this, but I don’t see that on Orico website. I would not recommend this!

We’ll see in time.
So far so good. I just got it today and installed the drives. There’s no way to know if Orico warrants their stuff though. I’ve gone to their site and haven’t found any reference to that. We’ll see how long it lasts. I had bought a 4 bay RAID enclosure from them and lasted almost 4 yrs before one of the bays stopped working. So far with this one the only negative are the screws. They don’t fit either the HDD or the SSD I have. Thankfully, I still have a kit with the needed screws. Aside from this, the installation was easy. The enclosure with the drives were recognized quickly.Biggest negative is that there’s no mention of a warranty.

Nice DAS thats handicapped by broken sleep function
this DAS has great speed the build quality is not bad either altho its not premium. but like others mentioned here it does have a sleep function that i have not found a way to wake the device from.the manufacturer calls it a smart sleep function to save energy but i tried unplugging the USB cabe and replugging even rebooting my laptop, none of this worked i had to manually turn the Device of and on again for it to reconnect to my laptop. disapointing. in other words a few minutes after you are no longer using the device it goes to sleep and disconnects from your computer and you must restart the device for it to reconnect to your computer.

Quick and easy!
I installed two Seagate HD and the computer recognized them immediately. It will go into a sleep mode if you don't use the drives frequently. There is a quick reset button the wakes the up.

Looks nice/performs badly
Be aware , as some others have reported, this unit has the potential to corrupt drives. I have had it happen to a couple new drives that were loaded with data and then reinstalled later to find the disk structure gets corrupted. Chkdsk cannot even access the disk. The only way i have found to recover is format/losing all the data. I will update this if orico responds to my inquiry for a firmware update/doubtful. It would be a nice unit overall if i could trust it....

Missing Sleep mode recovery. Must power on by button to often. Works well otherwise.
Better Looks, than function. Its just a plastic shell with nothing to lock drives in place, other than gravity. But the worst is no sleep or standby. Just a power on and off button, which must be pressed at every pc restart and/or long PC standby time. Very inconvenient, you must keep these huge boxes in arms reach. Dumb me, though I could remedy with a smart plug, thats a nogo and no help. You MUST press the power button located on the back, after every PC shutdown. Even if the unit is never unplugged, not good.

All plastic but functional
This enclosure feels a little flimsy at times, but functionality wise it works great. If this is something that sits on a desk and isn’t moved around a lot, this is perfect. If you intend on traveling with this, best to find a more durable rugged alternative.
