TONE Plug Socket Set PG86S 3/8" Inch Drive 14mm 4-Piece

This made changing the spark plugs so much easier on my forester. These are the exact right length and have a great base for hand turning or turning with a wrench if needed. The one tradeoff this makes is that these don’t latch tightly to each other or with attached sockets. This makes them easy to latch into things like inserted spark plug sockets, but also makes it harder to pull the spark plug socket out after tightening a new plug. On at least one, I had to swap these for my craftsman extensions just to extract the socket plug. I’d still rather have these than not, though, as they make everything but the final extraction a breeze.

These are essential socket extensions for changing plugs on a 2021 Subaru Outback. These extensions and a swivel socket extension should be all you need to get the job done.

I rarely write reviews but will make an exception in this case. I've done this job several times, always a pain in the but. Always contorting, scratching up my arms trying to get a good swing on a ratchet with little to no room. This set was an absolute game changer. I just used it for the first time on a 2016 3.6L Outback and it made the job stress free and easy to do (once you got battery, airbox etc. out of the way). I used it in combination with the Gearwrench 17mm 120XP Flex Head (#86217). I used to hate doing plugs on these engines, always trying to get the right extension length then squeaking in the ratchet. With this TONE set and the 17mm Gearwrench the job was easy. Do yourself a favor, definitely worth the money! Mine shipped from Japan so it did take a few weeks to arrive, heads up on that.

Despite owning a couple 14mm spark plug sockets, I followed advice to get these before even looking at the subaru it's a tight fit to say the least (there are people out there who prefer to lift the engine rather than scrape their knuckles between the engine and the frame rails). After finagling the coils off, the challenge is in getting a socket and driver in there - the rear ones have perhaps 1" clearance - insufficient to even get a skinny "toothpick" socket in there. These did the job and the flats are perfect for those occasions when the driver won't fit. Once the plug is loosened, it's easier to just unscrew by hand. The extensions are necessary as it's a case of take a few turns, remove an extension, unscrew a bit more. One minor nit-pick is that they don't stay connected so often you end up removing too much and then having to reassemble the bits needed - oh and it doesn't grip the spark plug tightly so it often has to be fished out afterwards with a magnet. Overall, they make the job possible but patience is necessary.

Very good qualities

I couldn't have changed my daughters spark plugs in her Subaru without this, and even then it falls into the bucket of never again :o). But if you're on the fence of whether you will need this or not, buy it.

Used in Combination with a Pittsburg Pro Long-Reach Dual Flex-Head Ratchet to change the spark plugs on my Subaru 2.5L. Had some of the problems others reported but was able to overcome with a 90 degree bent needle nose plier. Tools cheaper than taking to a shop and more fun.

I was eager to get my hands on these tools. My 2019 Subaru Outback 3.6R is very particular when it comes to change spark plugs. The TONE Plug Socket 4-Piece is the right tool to accomplish that task. Unfortunately 3 out of 4 parts were missing on arrival, so now I'm in the process of returning and getting a refund. I don't know if it's fair to give only one star not knowing for sure the seller is the one to blame for the missing parts.

水平対向エンジン用だけあり、完璧です。今まで苦労して交換してましたが、作業時間も短縮され、嘘のように簡単に交換できます。ただわざとだと思いますが、エクステンションバーが緩く抜けやすくなってますので少し注意が必要です。自分でメンテナンスされる方なら是非工具箱に入れててほしいアイテムです。

Great quality, easy to use, made changing the spark plugs on my Toyota 86 easier...

Generally an excellent design with different lengths extension and magnetic spark plug socket. Works very well on Subaru cars to get into tight spaces. One major flaw is that detent balls springs are very weak and the internal magnet on the spark plug socket holds onto the spark plug hex nut tighter than the detent ball on your extension can hold the socket. Hence after having installed the plug, the socket is always left behind and it's extremely difficult to pull it out, especially on the 4th cylinder where there is no room for curve pliers. This flaw basically ruins the whole set.
