Productive and efficient
Purchased this recently from amazon and so far so good. Anyone who types a alot of emails, text etc.. and by that I dont mean a few words then the qwerty keypad will be a joy to use. Anyone who gets frustrated typing on touch screen, get this. Screen is bright and sharp and the touch interface is smooth and works relatively well. Web browsing is adequate with the touch screen an added bonus but by no means brilliant due to the small screen and feels slower when compared to your android or iphones. The phone itself is very slim, compact, has a premium feel and battery lasts about a day or so hence will need charging every night. The user interface is not as intuitive as other interfaces but if you put abit of work learning and setting it up correctly then it will be very beneficial. If you are looking for a phone primarily for multimedia use such as web browsing, music and apps then this is not the phone for you. On the other hand if you need a productive(emailing, texting, a phone that actually can make and recieve calls and im not being sarcastic), reliable and no nonsense phone, then I recommend this. Having had blackberrys and iphones in the past as well as the samsung galaxy s2 Ive reverted back to the blackberry as it is ideally suited to my needs which is hectic and demanding so have no time to play on a phone with games or watch videos. Entertainment vs productivity. ******Must mention the great service by amazon when I had an issue with my order. I contacted them and they responded within an hour or so and dealt with it promptly and efficiently. Will definitely buy from amazon again and would recommend anyone buying to choose amazon because of their excellent customer service.********

Terrible seller attitude, horrible item.
I found the smartphone defective from the very beginning as follows:- 1. The clock changed its time once, on its own. 2. The alarm setting changed on its own, once. 3. It cannot connect to the WiFi. 4. It stops ringing (connection remaining intact) when I try to fetch it out of my pocket, every time (I have taken extreme care each time not to touch any button on the phone), especially if my finger comes in contact with the screen. This has never happened with any of my phones in the past. 5. I find the phone switched on in the morning even when I switched it off the night before. 6. Unwanted screen appears at times without my command. 7. The phone becomes very hot on its own at times, even when locked, draining charges. 8. It may show another number on the screen than the one I command for. 9. Blackberry app world does not work. 10. Maps do not work. I wrote to the seller. The seller's attitude is appaling. Initially, they would not reply to my complaint. Then, after I spoke to Amazon, they sent me an email, summarily dismissing what I wrote and refusing to replace the item. Then I advised them that I would take legal action and asked for a reply within seven days of my letter being sent to them. They did not reply. It made me wonder, are they comfortable under the protective umbrella of Amazon? I spoke to Amazon again and this time I was reassured by a nice gentleman at Amazon who advised me that action will be taken against the seller and I should hear very soon. New Blackberry FAN!
I was very fed up lately with Android, Apple and the pain to type in a touchscreen and have been looking for a Blackberry for a while. However, I didn't want to completely lose the touch screen luxury and I was trying to decide between Blackberry Bold 9790 and 9900! I don't know how I discovered AMAZON WAREHOUSE!!! I read review after review about products, service, etc. Although I was told by Amazon customer service that they can't give me much info about the product, I took the risk and got for 270£ a Bold 9900 'like new' condition. The price was just amazing, since I was just about to buy the 9790 for 320£!! I was sooo impatient that I ordered it Friday morning and chose 'next day' delivery (not express). The box was here before 11am which was amazing (didn't need to pay for express delivery by 1pm!)! When I opened the package the box was not in a good condition and you could see that was opened and re sealed. I open the box and saw the phone - absolutely perfect! The only thing being opened was the phone and the battery, everything else was sealed. I guess this was a return from sb who changed his/her mind and the package was not in good condition, that's why the price was that good! But I don't mind since everything works perfectly! Now about the phone...I just looove it :) The experience of the touchscreen but also the speed that you can check emails, reply to txts, check facebook and type a note is incredible. The screen and the resolution is really good and being an Android user for a while I'm so impressed about how responsive the touch screen is. I have this phone for less than 12h but I hope that it's going to last for a long time and I'm sure it's going to be the most functional phone I ever had! Now, browsing the App world, I can't see why people complaint so much...I really miss Skype but I'm sure that more and more apps will be on the way. Still a medium user like me (not a geek) will find more than enough! Also works perfectly with a 3 sim card. Definitely recommend it!

Fantastic phone
I was so disappointed that the seller did a fast one on me...took my money and disappeared without sending me the phone although he said that he had despatched it. He hadn't. Amazon promptly refunded me my money. I then thought that this might be a blessing in disguise when i found it a few weeks later that the blackberry 10 was coming out. But now that they are out the Q10 nor Z10 are not really what I am looking for and if I was to buy another blackberry it would be the 9900...anyway the galaxy s4 is out now so I may swing that way in the future. Update: Well I saw sense and thought better of the S4 as prices are so ridiculous. Decided that it was the Bold 9900 for me as it had everything that I needed in a phone. Saw a reasonable priced one and grabbed it. I've had it 2 weeks now and it is just amazing. It is like the Bold 9000 but so much more upbeat and snazzier. I love the touchscreen addition. I've deleted all unused languages and apps and I have 17 apps installed and I still have 154mb of free application memory...I will now stop obsessing over application memory and the lack of it as on the 9000. I have absolutely no complaints about this phone it is just amazing...the only thing is the battery life. But I have now figured out how to get the most of the battery. The original battery after 12 hours with moderate use still has 45% of battery life left (it will probably last 22 hours). I have adopted the following measures to conserve battery life: Switch to 2G Dim backlight to 10% Turn off vibrate (notification alerts should be enough) Turn off GPS when not in use Turn off bluetooth when not in use Use wifi whenever available Turn off wifi when not in use Exit from apps after use (use menu key to completely close the app) Turn off the battery monitor feature Lower all notification/alert volumes to maximum 3 (this is adequate)... i've kept ring tone at 10 as when phone is in pocket I have trouble hearing phone ring. Delete unused apps (the social feeds app causes a memory leak it may also affect battery life) and deleting unused languages will boost your application memory space greatly. the above steps will also keep application memory constant I have also bought the standard 3150mah extended battery (bought before I implemented the above measures to make the most out of the original battery). I thought this battery would last 3 times as much as the original but initial uses shows it lasting only 18 hours with moderate use so I am quite disappointed as I would prefer to use a battery that doesn't come with an extended back as I would prefer to keep the slimline look of the phone as it is just so beautiful to look at and amazing to the touch. I'm even reluctant to put it in a case as I want to be able to hold it and look at it..lol...but I have ordered the ballistic case for it as I've seen too many people walking around with smashed phone screens and I don't want that to happen to mine. The seller was fantastic and provides the full 12 months warranty on the phone...brilliant. I am so enjoying this phone and I know i made the right decision. I was a bit worried about the browser having read some of the reviews on here but the browser is amazing. I can read all web pages with the pinch and zoom feature. The load speed is just out of this world. There is nothing i'm going to miss about the 9000 and its pathetic browser and constant rebooting needs. After a year with the 9000 the 9900 is a welcome relief. I can now enjoy a blackberry instead of lamenting about its many problems.

A triumph for Blackberry
Having received the new Blackberry Bold 9900 today I am happy to report that most of the major flaws of the previous Bold family have been fixed. The web browser is snappy and responsive, the touchscreen is easy to use, fluid and a delight (no doubt because of the Snapdragon CPU). The phone is very thin for a Blackberry and the fact that it's got a touchscreen as well is particularly impressive given the brick-like feel of the Torch. The camera is a huge step forward from the camera in my old 9700, however, it still has a way to go to match up to the superior iPhone 4 camera (and most likely the iPhone 5 that is forthcoming). The major strength, as always with Blackberry, is the keyboard which is a return to form. The keyboard is the same size and feel that we had in the old Bold 9000 and it's fantastic! For Blackberry users, the Bold 9900 is amazing and represents a great deal of engineering and research by RIM to produce a phone that is functional, stylish and a joy to use. For users of iPhone and Android however, RIM has yet to make a phone which is as comprehensive or as forward thinking as iOS and Android are. RIM has a ready made consumer pool for its phones; we all love Blackberrys and I personally wouldn't move to another manufacturer. However, RIM fails to develop phones that will make users want to switch from Android or iOS and that's where the money is. It is my feeling that although the Bold 9900 is a huge step forward, anyone switching from iOS or Android will most likely miss some of the features they've come to know and love in their previous platform. I highly recommend this phone to anyone with an older Blackberry - get it and you won't look back. For iOS and Android users I'd recommend borrowing a friend's phone to test drive it first because you'll either love Blackberry or think it's antiquated and a touch passé.

Frankly, my old Bold 9000 is a better deal....
Having had a BB for 5 years, and a Bold 9000 for almost 4 years I've been OK with RIM. I use it mostly for mail, messaging and calls. The battery life, a proper keyboard, robust secure push email and IM are important. Occasional web access for google etc. Last weekend I dropped my trusted 9000 on the drive, and a while later my son parked (literally) his car on it. As he drove off later, my wife spotted it and gently passed it to me in the way one might hand over a deceased pet. Just as I took it, it vibrated and that little red light flashed - it lived! Of course, the screen was broken, and the surround dented but that phone was so tough! Nonetheless, I decided to upgrade and purchased the closest modern equivalent - and if you set them down side-by-side they look almost identical. Remarkably, although the screen was broken, I plugged the old 9000 into the pc and Blackberry Desktop Mgr duly transferred everything to the new one. So far, so good _ sure hope the 9900 is as tough. Then I was prompted to upgrade the SW to the latest version and I seemed to go through a morning of crashes, restarts, and failed upgrades as it tried to sort itself out. I can't remember the last time my 9000 froze/crashed. BDM had migrated my favorite apps too.. VIIGO (a news/information service now owned by RIM). Oh dear.. it doesn't work with the new Blackberry OS7 and it seems RIM are ditching it. Slingplayer - a product that allows you to watch your home TV whilst on the road .. worked great on my 9000 - oh dear - no longer works on OS7 or new Berries. I wanted to load Skype - nope, not available although some US network providers do support it. I have an IPAD where everything just works. I didn't expect the new 9900 to be much better than the 9000 in the app department but I did expect a bit more than a phone. It looks and feels great, the screen is lovely BUT THE SOFTWARE SUPPORT SUCKS! What are RIM doing? It seems they have a death wish - simple apps that worked (even their own) on older phones no longer works on the new ones. It's as if they are trying really really hard to fail - and doing very well. RIM are supposed to be releasing the hotspot capability in OS7.1 - a release that also is said to be increasing battery life. I hope the hotspot capability will allow me to use the Ipad apps so I have the best of both worlds. So what's good? It is a classy machine, the screen resolution is great, and the mixture of touch screen and keyboard works well. The camera is much better, as is the video. The new menu system takes a bit of getting used to, but it's ok. Web access is much faster, and of course the screen resolution makes it more usable than on the old one. Worth the price? If I had my old Bold working, to be honest, the upside of better screen and faster processor does not compensate for the downside of fewer apps and 450ukp less in my account. In any case, what's the benefit of better hardware if the software is not there to support it. I want real keys and robust mail, so I'm happy to keep the device but it's not worth the money. If you're not wedded to Blackberry buy an Iphone or something Android. UPDATE. I installed the leaked OS7.1.0.267 because the battery had gone down to 35% in 4 hrs of idle. It's certainly better after day 1 - taking 12 hrs before it's at 35%. Light usage with this, but had wifi and bluetooth on all day. Also tried the new Hotspot feature (where you can share the 3G connection with up to 5 other devices). Worked well with the Ipad, so now (as long as your plan supports it) you can have the Apple apps and the Blackberry mail etc. I raised my assessment from 2 stars to 3 but it still has room for improvement.

Best of both worlds
It is so good to back on a BlackBerry after two years on an iPhone. This is the best of both worlds: fast processor, reliable email, good signal, reasonable battery life, touchscreen and qwerty. Despite so much bad press, RIM has done a great job with this device and it is light years ahead of my old Curve 8300, especially things like reading PDFs and editing Word docs. It just, as they say, works. I have teamed it up with a PlayBook they work very nicely together. But quality control isn't great. My first one was DOA, and sat on my desk connected to the charger doing nothing but displaying the "invalid battery" icon, even though the battery that I inserted was of course the one that came in the box. Apparently this is a known issue. This one also has the "issue" that some people are complaining about: the squeaky trackpad! I hadn't really noticed it until I read it on a forum and thought "yeh, I suppose mine squeaks too". I solved it with a little Vaseline around the trackpad. Don't return yours without trying this first as it isn't really a fault.
