Q: How do you connect this up to a DAW (eg. Reason or Ableton) and control it (and the DAW) with a MIDI keyboard?

In its stock form, there is only a MIDI input and a 3.5mm output jack. You first plug in your MIDI keyboard into your interface or computer via MIDI cable or USB respectively. Then use the MIDI output from your audio interface to connect to the volca, and configure your DAW to output to whichever MIDI channel you want.Connect a 3.5mm cable with an adaptor to one of your audio interface inputs, and if all is configured properly you can turn up the volume and hear your volca being played from your MIDI keyboard.

Q: Can I sync this with my Roland TR 606 ?

You can synch the midi out of a drum machine to the midi in of the Volca or use the trigger out from the 606 to the synch in of the Volca. I'm using a TR626 with my Volca Bass and it works fine. I just checked and saw there's no midi on the 606 but you can still use the trigger.

Q: What sorts of ports does it have? USB?

No USB. MIDI in, audio out, and sync in/out.

Q: does the volca have built in adjustable tempo ? with a display of it?

yes , every volca have its own tempo knob
