Lots of successful seed starting!
Worked so well for seed starting! I had so many seeds germinate (once I learned about proper soil temps) and grow lights. The plants even seemed pretty happy for a while when I was lazy about transplanting to indoor potting soil. Might have stunted their growth a bit without nutrients but they did pretty well. Bottom watering is definitely the way to go as it get very soggy with too much moisture. Iโve also started so many seed trays with just this bag. I wish it resealable.

Good
Consistency is good and helped my organic plants grow mixed it with compost and it worked well. I like that is organic. Size and amount was good. Good value for your money

Great medium for starting seeds
This stuff is great for starting seeds so that wilt doesn't hit the baby plants. Best to keep it just a little bit on the dry side and water from the bottom. It has little or no nutritional value for the plants so gently fertilize then transfer the babies once the root system is established. It does dry out easily, but little monitoring takes care of that.

Legit soil starter, son!!!
This seed starting soil is legit!!! I planted cucumber seeds, a few herbs, and they sprouted in just a few days! No cap. I was really impressed and just planted an avocado pit to see how it grows. Total aura, thanks back to the roots!!!

100% germination!
UPDATE: while seeds germinated faster with this mix, the seeds planted in MiracleGro seed starting mix did all eventually germinate and in fact are now looking much more healthy than the Back to Roots mix. Top 2 rows in second photo are in miracle gro mix, bottom 2 rows in back to roots mixture. Iโm changing from 5-stars to 4 only because I think the miraclegro seed starting mix is out performing Original review: 100% germination of tomato seeds with this mix vs about 65% germination with Miracle Gro brand seed starting mix in same environment. Used covered tray with grow lights, warming pad and โCow Potsโ 3โ pots.

Not Great For Seedlings
I typically like Back to the Roots' products, but this one is a huge pass from me. I started my first tray of seedlings in this mix and a second tray with another mix - both were otherwise kept in the same growing conditions in a controlled environment. I'm giving 3 stars only because, technically, most everything germinated. However, this mix had so many huge chunks in it and most of the seedlings suffered from damping off (I actually grew a mushroom in one cell) or just plain struggled beyond the initial germination. They were not overwatered, and were actually bottom watered. This may be fine as a potting mix, but for seedlings vulnerable to mold/fungus (they're not so vulnerable once a bit bigger) I'm sticking to something that is more sterile.

Back to The Roots Organic Seed Starting - Easy to Use
This Back to The Roots Organic Seed Starter is really easy to use and a good value. It retains moisture well and expands to fill several pots (12 quarts). It has good consistency and some of the seedlings appear to be starting to sprout. A good value for a nice-sized block of compressed starter, I would purchase this product again; five stars from me.
