Simplicity itself...
Just needed a chassis for a 2.5" SATA drive which I had taken from an old netbook and wanted to use as a Time Machine back up disc for a Macbook Air. Ordered yesterday evening and it arrived, as promised, the following morning (Prime delivery). Installing the drive was simple: top cover slides off, sata drive slides in, top cover slides back on. Bingo. Comes with two pieces of self adhesive foam which I applied - one on the case under the drive and the other on the top surface of the drive. Once the cover is replaced, these cushion the drive nicely and help hold it securely in place. The case is plastic but substantial, not flimsy. Simple design but pleasant enough. USB cable is supplied with the chassis. Once installed, I plugged it in and all worked perfectly. All in all, very happy with this item and great value too at the asking price. Would happily recommend.

Easy to change out drives, fast.
Review for ORICO 2.5 Inch SATA to USB 3.0 Tool-free External Hard Drive Enclosure for 2.5" Great enclosure and exactly what I wanted. I have a bunch of old 2.5" HDD that i swap in and out of this unit as required. Very easy and seems to work fine. With an old SSD installed, and plugged into a usb 3.1 port I get read speeds up to 380MB/s and write speeds of 260MB/s which is fine. Lid is removable so you can easily sway drives our without any tools, although be warned that I keep mine on my desk, if you travel with it you might want to secure the lid to avoid accidental separation. Cannot comment on reliability as I have only owned for a week, but I will update review if I have any issues.

Fantastic Hard Drive Enclosure!
I needed a portable enclosure for a 1tb 2.5 inch hdd that I had extra so installed it in there and turned it into a portable hard drive. I can now use it with either my laptop or desktop computer and it works automatically very well via USB 3.0. Only downside is that the other end of the cable is proprietary so if you lose it then you are stuck. However it works with basically any 2.5 inch drive such as an ssd or hdd. The case is quite solid and tool-less as well so no screw driver is required. Simply slide the lid off, slot in the hard drive and slide the lid back closed and it clicks in place and is very secure and does not fall out. I have carried this in my backpack or suitcase multiple times and it is quite safe and portable. It does not take up tons of room either which is great and only has a blue activity LED so not too intrusive.

No fuss, no hassle
I recall the early days of hard drive caddies, when you weren't sure whether your moving parts drive would even spin up inside it. Would the circuit board stay in place? Would a touch of the cable cause it to panic and disappear from your computer? Luckily, the ORICO is the new benchmark. Assembly is ridiculously easy: slide the cover back, place the drive inside, add one of the supplied sticky pads on top if you need to pad out the space, and slide the cover on again. That's it. Plugging in the USB 3.0 cable causes it to install hands-free in Windows 10 and Windows 7, and it's treated like a hard drive as you'd expect. I've even pulled SMART data from drives. I've tested it with HDDs and SSDs, and both have been fine. The case is thick enough that you don't fear you're going to squeeze the drive itself if you pick it up (hello cheap aluminium cases!), but isn't so big it takes up much more than the size of the drive itself. Straight edges mean you could easily stack a load of these together. So why the loss of one star? It's the sliding case, the same one that made installation so painless. With SSDs installed, I've not really had a problem. But with a moving parts drive, I've more than once had the case slide open when I've picked it up. It never gets far because the case rides along a rail before it actually comes off, but it's a bit frustrating. The clip to hold it in place just isn't strong enough, and ideally would need a push not just a tug on the door.

Works great on Xbox and gave life to my old hdd
Had an existing external usb hard drive that was causing the Xbox to freeze and was unreadable. Decided to try this so as to determine if it was my old hdd or enclosure at fault. Dismantled my old external drive and put the hdd in this enclosure and it went together very easily. The hdd has been working flawlessly in this enclosure for weeks now, so all positive from me :)

Very easy to use and good quality for price.
I bought a couple of these to use as housing for 2.5 sata hard disk drives that i took out of some old laptops. I wanted to clear the drives and use them as external hard drives. These enclosures are just what i was looking for. They are of good robust quality and not flimsy. I put the hard drives into them and connected them up to my iMac. The were recognised very quickly. I them formatted the disk drives and hey presto I have to new external hard drives. Great value for money. I also have another old external hard drive that the mini usb connection broke off, so I will be buying another one of these to house that also.

Good quality external hard drive enclosure
Works perfectly and have tried with two separate HDDs of different capacity and vintage. Slide open case allows easy insertion of HDD without the need for any tools. Build quality is good, with a metallic top cover and plastic main body and sliding access door. Write speeds were around 75 GBit / s via a USB 3 port to a 1TB HDD, although this will primarily be dictated by the type of drive you are writing to.
