Reflecta RPS 10M - film scanner

For the Price the scan is amazing

Been using around a month now, very good product. I purchased SilverFast Archive Suite separately which greatly improves quality of scan and workflow (need to spend a lot of time with SilverFast to get a good appreciation of the benefits). There is a bit of tweaking required for frame alignment which does appear to be related to the film type and camera (whether the film was advanced manually or by motor). The advantage this has over similar products is that there is builtin autofocus, IR detection (algorithm(s) builtin to firmware) and you can batch scan film but it does need you to be around to make it work effectively, to perform any tweaks on the fly but still quicker than manual feed once you know what to do. I've had no issue in inserting film strip into unit (all mine are in strips of four frames) but I would strongly recommend you obtain cotton gloves (prevent transfer of grease/oil to emulsion side and internals of scan unit) and a Giottos blower for removal of dust prior to scan.

Note: this was purchased on eBay not Amazon, but the same seller is also selling the same product on Amazon. This is a good film scanner for the money. The dynamic range is very good (although I haven't measured it scientifically), it scans very fast on max resolution; much faster than advertised. The image quality is superb and it has autofocus to ensure optimal sharpness. The scanner is let down in a few areas though; 1) The film strip feeding mechanism is very fiddly and annoying and is hard to align, I'd much prefer a film strip holder. It has trouble with film strips less than 2 1/2 frames long. 2) Pre-scanning is very slow 3) The scan lighting is not perfectly even, but this is only noticeable in certain situations depending on film exposure. 4) The included software, Cyberview X5 is pretty bad. I find it very unintuitive and lacking in functionality. The "magic touch" dust removal works great with Fuji slide film but is useless with any other kind of film in my experience. I ended up buying Vuescan (approx £70 to download) which is FAR better software and the IR dust removal seems to work with everything I've tried so far. Better UI, more intuitive and much more functionality. I give this product 3 stars with the included software but would give it 4 stars with Vuescan. Unfortunately, since Nikon and Konica Minolta discontinued their high end film scanners, there aren't many options short of an £8000 Hasselblad drum scanner. Update: I had trouble scanning uncut film using the negative feeder due to the curling of the film. My advice is to leave the film uncut and do the whole strip in one go. You will need to bend the end of the film so that the feeder will accept it. I have also found a few cases where the film is too badly curved and the AF is slightly off as a consequence. This scanner really needs a film strip holder. I'd still recommend this scanner though despite the negatives.

Well at last it's working. It's a good bit of kit - let down by shocking software. Prepare to pay extra for Vuescan or SilverFast if you want to use it seriously. Lots of options, quite tricky to get your head round, but I've discovered high quality scanning takes quite a bit of learning. If you can, I would find another supplier, I'm not sure if that's possible. My first model had a fault so I posted it back. It took A MONTH, and a lot of chasing up, for them to decide it needed replacing.

Gekauft habe ich den Reflecta 65910 RPS Filmscanner um meine Negative welche ich seit ca. 1980 angesammelt habe zu digitalisieren und archivieren. Von der Qualität der Scans bin ich sehr zufrieden. Wenn man die optimalen Einstellungen durch Versuche mal gefunden hat funktioniert das Gerät echt toll. Ich bringe manchmal mit Nachbearbeitung bessere Fotos zusammen, als anno dazumal das Fotolabor. Um die Geschwindigkeit zu erhöhen bin ich bei der Auflösung bei bester Bearbeitung auf 2500 dpi runter gegangen, dies reicht für Fotos bis DIN A4 vollkommen. Und es ist gut zu wissen, dass wenn man wirklich ein Plakat drucken will, noch Reserven vorhanden sind. Wenn die Negative sich in einem sehr schlechten Zustand befinden kann dieses Gerät natürlich auch nicht zaubern aber ich war schon überrascht was da noch möglich ist. Ein allgemeiner Tipp: Digitalisieren sie ihre alten Negative, denn ich war auch überrascht in welch schlechten Zustand manche, trotz relativ guter Aufbewahrung, schon waren. Inzwischen bin ich mir nicht mehr sicher ob ich alle meine Negative einscannen werde, denn der Zeitaufwand für große Mengen ist doch enorm.

Premetto che da diversi anni mi diletto nello scannerizzare le foto analogiche del passato, soprattutto le pellicole. Ho già acquistato diversi scanner tra i quali l'ottimo Proscan 7200 sempre di Reflecta e l'Epson V850 pro. Ho preso questo terzo scanner per la praticità d'uso non essendo legato all'utilizzo di porta diapositive o portanegativi come il Proscan e svariati altri tipi di scanner. Caricare il portanegativi e porta dia è un'operazione abbastanza noiosa. Altra motivazione a supporto dell'acquisto dell'RPS 10 M è il fatto che è l'unico scanner in produzione di costo non proibitivo ad avere l'autofocus, cosa non da poco specialmente quando le condizioni di conservazione delle pellicole non sono il massimo, ovvero la presenza di curvature, ed in ogni caso la possibilità di mettere a fuoco la pellicola in un determinato punto assicura il massimo della resa di dettaglio. Altri scanner hanno questa funzione, parlo di Hasselblad Flexlight e Nikon Coolscan (non più prodotti) ed altri del passato, macchine dai costi proibitivi da i 3000 euro in su. Torniamo all'RPS 10M : è uno scanner dichiarato per risoluzione di 10 mila dpi, una enormità che produce immagini che pesano molto anche in compressione JPEG, in realtà l'apparecchio pur potendo produrre immagini così grandi ha una risoluzione ottica di circa 4300 dpi, come rilevato dall'ottimo sito-guida "Filmscanner.info" ...una vera bibbia del settore (purtroppo in tedesco e inglese per lo più). Quindi come logica conseguenza di quanto detto, visto che lo scanner raggiunge la massima risoluzione anche a 5000 dpi conviene usare quest'ultima impostazione, non appesantendo le immagini con informazioni inutitli alla effettiva risoluzione ottica. Ho effettuato anche io personalmente lo stesso test del sito con la diapositiva test USAF 1951 raggiungendo i circa 4300 dpi e in un passaggio anche 4598!!! Veramente molto buono, batte (per questo parametro) il Nikon Coolscan che arriva a 3900. L'apparecchio in se è costruito bene, seppur tutto in plastica, ha piedini d'appoggio gommati così non scivola sul tavolodi lavoro. Come tutti gli scanner emette diversi rumori-suoni forse un pò più degli altri. Ultimo capitolo riguardo il software, viene fornito con CyberView che fa da driver e software di scansione, ma che è meglio evitare date le scarse qualità di regolazioni e performances... molto meglio dotare l'apparecchio di softwares più adeguati e capaci di farlo rendere al meglio. Consiglio senza dubbio l'uso di Silverfast 8.8 che rende non necessaria l'installazione del driver avendocelo già incorporato. Dal pannello di controllo potrete effettuare qualsiasi regolazione, anche molto, molto sofisticata e comandare l'hardware al dettaglio. E' una spesa necessaria un buon software che certo fa crescere il costo complessivo ma che da la possibilità di trarre il meglio dalla macchina. Senza di esso tanto vale comprare qualcosa di molto più economico...i risultati potrebbero essere comparabili.

Aunque no he tenido mucho tiempo para probarlo los resultados son muy buenos, aunque en mi opinión es un aparato caro al que luego hay que añadirle un buen programa de escaneo como Silverfast Ai8, que no incluye, las plantillas de calibración, un buen manual, vamos que al final hay que meterle otros más de 400 euros adicionales. Todo sea por recuperar con calidad las diapositivas sacadas a lo largo de una vida.

Scanner parfait pour filmer les films et diapo qui trainent au fond des tiroirs. La qualité est très bonne jusqu'à 5000dpi ce qui est plus que suffisant et permet de recadrer ses images en gardant une bonne résolution. L’anti-poussière fonctionne très bien. Le logiciel fourni manque de réglage, je conseille d'utiliser VueScan qui est plus complet. Les JPG ne sont pas toujours parfait mais pour les plus belles diapo une sortie en TIFF suivie d'un passage dans DxO donne de très bons résultats en quelques minutes. Je recommande.

Tras un mes de uso :Reflecta RPS 10 M es un scanner de negativos y diapositivas para amateurs que ofrece resultados bastante aceptables con mínimos conocimientos de fotografía. Como tod en la vida con “pros” y “contras”. El dispositivo viene con un software para escaneado y procesamiento de fotos ciertamente “inquietante”. Es sorprendente que un scanner tan caro (750 €) no cuente de serie con un programa decente para realizar su función. Pero, así son las cosas. Gracias Dios existe otro que puedes comprar por el módico precio de 50 €, en versión básica, más 25 de gastos de envío, (SilverScan) que realiza el trabajo francamente bien y lleva manual en castellano . Es un programa que encuadra "normalmente bien" cada fotograma (falla si hay negativos velados), enfoca, y realiza un montón de funciones preseleccionadas por ti de modo automático ahorrando mucho trabajo de edición posterior. La máquina es rápida y permite escanear una tira entera de 6 negativos (por lotes). Muchos de los ajustes posibles no son necesarios y empeoran el resultado final. Tiene un modo “piloto automático” para enseñar al usuario a familiarizarse con los diversos controles y no olvidar ajustes esenciales. Con un poco de paciencia y después de varios carretes escaneados aprendes a hacer el trajo de modo eficiente (eliminar “polvo y arañazos”, “grano y ruido” de la película, etc.). También puedes pre visualizar el resultado final y agregar cambios que se reflejarán inmediatamente en tu pantalla del Pc. Lo mejor: cómodo de usar, rápido e intuitivo. Lo peor: precio elevado y software suministrado prácticamente inútil.
