Very Straightforward Instructions and Interesting Results
his kit is pretty complete to test your whole house, although the first thing it says in the Step-by-Step Instructions is that you should have 2 kits, one for indoors and another to place in various locations outside of your house. The reason being, you need to see what molds there are coming in from outdoors to compare to what you may find indoors. Especially if you tend to keep certain windows open most of the day. There are 4 different test sampling methods you can perform with this kit: 1) Settling Air Quality sampling; 2) HAVC Air Sampling; 3) Visual Surface Sampling; and 4) Bulk Sample. I chose to do the Setting Air Quality setting and placed a petri dish in every room in spots that I thought might be potentially cultivating mold. The instructions are pretty clear, I’ll tell you what. You basically place the petri dishes without their lids in various locations for 1 hour. You then cover them with the lids and leave them for 48 hours. After that, you seal each petri dish by putting a layer of tape around the seam where the lid meets the dish. I used a label maker to then identify the room from which the sample sat. You must now put all these samples in a warm dark spot for another 48 hours. At this point, if there’s mold growing you can then compare it to their Mold Identification Guide that has photos of a dozen different types of molds, where they’re normally found, and what sort of health issues they can cause. At this point, if you think you have a mold problem, you can either take the sample to a professional mold removal company or send to a lab for further analysis and recommendations. So only start this testing when you know you have about 4-7 days to monitor results. I thought it was interesting that in the room where my aquarium is located, I thought for sure there would be mold, but to my surprise it was actually pretty free of anything.
