Just got a few. What can I do to eliminate the chemical smell. It's keeping me from using them!

It is possible to wash them in a washing machine in warm water with a bunch of towels on top. You'll have to push the pillow under the water a few times throughout the cycle. I also run it thru an extra rinse cycle. Also a dryer sheet and the air dry cycle on your dryer. Just remember NO heat.

is the exterior covering washable?

For anyone else who wants to know, while this is supposed to be spot cleaned, you can put it in a pillow case and safety pin it shut or use one of the fine mesh (like Woolite or Tide brands) lingerie bags. Wash it on gentle and then air dry it. I even wash kids' stuffed animals that way, and they come out like new. It WOULD be nice if it came with a slip cover, but it doesn't, so this is an alternative way to wash it and get it really clean.

No...it is filled with tiny styrofoam beads. If it gets a hole in it a small child could choke or suffocate on the tiny styrofoam beads. I would NOT recommend it for small children or a toy. It's not very comfortable as a neck pillow either & im not sure why it got decent reviews. I would give it 1 1/2 stars & that's being generous. :/

does the cover come off for washing?

No but if you have a newer type of washer and put it in a pillowcase cover (they have a zipper closure) to wash on a delicate cycle it will be fine. Over time washing will force beads to come through the fabric because of the high velocity spin...but if you use the zip pillowcase it won’t get the beads all in your washer..

Okay, bit noisy

2⭐ neck pillow. Lacking comfort and practicality. I only use this for the hole that allows for headphones /my 3M peltor ear muffs and the cool side is scratchy at best, the beads are somewhat good if you don't want certain pressure points or want slightly more airflow to your face although do that too much and you lose some needed support from pushing away too many beads. The cover is not washable which is ridiculous considering the price. I want to get a 2nd one and I think I'll get a knockoff with a removable cover because the cooling side was pretty useless in that I avoided its uncomfortableness.No issues with the clip button thing that holds the sides joining together but I haven't traveled with it.
