It's very easy to use, basically just turn it on, zero it, and adjust it to match what you're doing--internal measurement, external measurement, and a surprisingly-useful depth measurement thing on the end. It comes with a protective case that is quite substantial and I put it back in there after every use to protect it from other things in my garage-based shop. I've used it to find the depth of slots cut in wood, thickness of wood (very useful to decide if routed molding is good enough rather than by one's own eye), make reproducible measurements (because it shows you digitally and not by you trying to judge little lines). It has both inches and metric, which is important if you're trying to measure existing screws and bolts--I can just put it up there and check both measurement systems, and the one that gives a typical size number is the kind it is! It can give you a rough idea of board thickness, which is especially important if you just tinker and don't have a thickness planer, at least you know which pieces will work pretty well. The buttons press crisply--just enough resistance so you know you pushed them and they pop right back up. The display is very readable, and for the physical lines, I would recommend the white on black even though it was a little more because it's readable at different angles and different lighting. Something I tested was reproducibility of results, measuring things and then shutting it off and on and trying again--no problems there. Great for judging thicknesses of model-making metal strips and things like that because it's hard to tell by eye but this just puts a decimal number on it and I can compare them easily.
