I owned a Sodastream, and I can't tell the difference between that model and the Phillips brand of carbonator. They both do the job equally well. I'm thrilled that I saved myself all the money it would have taken to get a Sodastream. I have used the Phillips for two weeks...which means I can't comment on its longevity. It could break right after I write this review. (If it does, I'll update the review.) Both units are very simple. Screw in the CO2 cannister and push the oversized button to carbonate the water. I don't use sweetener. I like plain H2O. If you're new to this product, you might be wondering how long the CO2 cannister lasts (I don’t think the type of carbonation machine you purchase, whether Sodastream or Phillips, makes a difference). After all, you want to save money on eight-packs of Bubly, right? Overall, you will save money. . .except you'll drink more water, which might end up being more expensive. Still, as far as dollars to product, this method is less expensive (once you surpass the initial cost of the machine and cannisters). Again, I save money because I do NOT buy flavors. Based on my body weight, I need to drink about a gallon of water per day. (If you're interested in improving your health, divide your body weight in half and drink that many ounces per day.) That means I need to drink 128 ounces or so. Four Phillips bottles of carbonated water allow me to meet and exceed that goal by about four ounces. Each bottle is one liter. (1 liter = 33.814 ounces). Over these last two weeks, I ended up drinking three or four bottles of soda water per day. I pumped the oversized button three or four times per bottle. The problem is you have to pump more as the CO2 cannister nears empty (at the end, it was five or seven times). On the thirteenth day, I couldn't get any fizz worth enjoying, so I figure I got twelve days of use out of a single cannister. Those last few days produced mediocre carbonation, hardly worth drinking. Once the carbonation is gone, the water tastes unpleasant to me. I just replaced the cannister at Walmart for $18 after tax. That means I spent $1.50 per day on my habit (18 dollars / 12 days = 1.5). Previously, I would purchase Bubly brand eight-packs. That came to about $4.75 after tax, each, or $0.60 per can. I would need to drink 11 cans per day to match four Phillips bottles. That’s about $6.60 per day—as opposed to $1.50 per day making my own fizzy water. I’ve saved roughly five dollars per day. THE HIDDEN CATCH: I didn’t usually drink Bubly every day. Carbonated water was a treat that cost me about $25 per month. But now that I can make my own treat whenever I want, I am looking at about $45 per month refilling those cannisters. THE HIDDEN BENEFIT: I am more likely to meet my healthful water-drinking goal if the water is carbonated. It makes me feel like I’m being naughty, so I drink more. So, look, if you are a soda hound, making your own fizz is the way to go. But do the math, because it may or may not save you money. ==== Update. For those of you who are like me: canned soda, whether just water or cola, is only good for a few minutes after you pop the top. I rarely finish a Coca-cola unless I drink it right away. It's the same for Sodastream and Phillips. The carbonation is just begging to escape the bottle. Therefore, I marathon drink my fizzy water, because if I wait, the beverage will lose its "oomph" and I'll dump it out, wasting CO2. That might not be you, but do consider that you might be speed-drinking these 1-liter (33 ounce) bottles just to keep up with the C02 loss. It's less to lose if you're drinking a twelve-ounce can of soda. Something to consider.

Update 2: My first unit quit working so I have replaced it with another of the same. So far it is working well and hopefully will for quite a while. I just received this yesterday and it was easy to figure out how to set it up and use it. I read directions, but mainly to know how long to press the button to make my fizzy water. So far I love it since my soda stream died a few days ago. I’m hoping this lasts much longer and the price was appealing also and I didn’t have to buy all new equipment to be shipped. Update: My unit is still working. I did have one instance where water sprayed everywhere, so I have been very careful to not overfill the bottle with water and it hasn’t happened again. We are in the Caribbean, so getting the canisters refilled can be problematic, but we ordered two devices and bits to make it all work, for this or Soda stream. I am going to order another because I know it won’t last forever and someone threw away or walked with one of my bottles! I use this constantly and sometimes fill up 3 times a day, so I do need the bottles.

So - this product is not worth your time or money. Each one of these systems has a blow-off valve. It's a way to ensure that you don't over-pressure and cause and explosion when pressurizing the body with Co2. After about 10 bottles of water (like 1/6 of a can of CO2) the blow off valve became stuck in the open position. Now it just blows air past the bottle, and doesn't pressurize anything. I didn't over-fill the water bottle. I didn't abuse it in any way. It's just defective. For context my Soda Stream was purchased in 2017 from the base exchange on Camp Foster, Okinawa. I have moved about four times since then, and it is still kicking. This thing? This thing broke after literally four days of light usage. I don't even think that amazon will accept the return, so you have to go through the company directly - which I am anticipating will be such an arduous process as to constitute a waste of time. I bought it on sale, so the good news is that I only set $50 dollars on fire, instead of whatever the MSRP is. Seriously, don't even give this a chance. I rarely get this indignant, but Philips should be ashamed. This is victorian era technology wrapped up in plastic. People who didn't have access to electricity had technology like this, and Philips hasn't figured out how to make it work. Anyways, rant over. It's a waste of money.

Best purchase if you drink a lot of sparkling water. It tastes just like the one you buy from the supermarket, carbonation wise you can decide how much to push it. It is all plastic but feels solid. The size is perfect to fit a mini bar or a corner in the kitchen. The tanks are very cheap to refill, so the value fr the money is 10/10. Super easy to install and use, just have to press a button. Looks nice on the table.

This makes a great and stylish alternative to SS. It looks great and minimal space requirements, carbonates great and the bottles look good (if not the mot ergonomic). The one annoying and potentially expensive design flaw is with the bottle caps. The O-Ring on the cap keeps falling out (not really held in by anything) and if you lose it.... you gotta buy a new bottle for that stupid o-ring. If Phillps offered for sale, or even gave a part number for the o-ring so people could buy spares I would give 5 stars.

I bought it 3 years ago, it still work great, a little bummed i paid $71 and now it's $43 though... but I've gotten good use out of it.

I have had an older Philips Soda Streaming Machine for a couple of years, but it developed an issue with not being able to pressurize the bottles. Assuming it was the same, and that I could use the SIX SodaStream bottles in my refrigerator, which had worked great on the old Philips, I went ahead and ordered it. Now I have seven bottles, but only one will work in this brilliantly engineered machine. That should be the headline: IF YOU HAVE AN OLDER PHILIPS SODA STREAMING MACHINE, OR A SODASTREAM, your old water bottles won't work. Consider spending $20 more and getting a good Sodastream, you old water bottles will work that one. Good luck. And thanks, Philips, for changing just for the sake of changing. Have fun.

I got this in May and used it with absolutely no issues at all until mid-September. I loved it. THEN things went wrong. The machine worked and then it didn't and then it did and then it didn't.... SO, I wrote a lousy review and was contacted by Phillips. Guess what? They sent me a NEW one, absolutely free. AND they sent two more bottles because I mentioned that those will hold a liter but you are not supposed to fill them over about 7/8 liter. You have to love a company that stands by its product and makes things right. I am rating them 5 stars based on the performance of Phillips. Bravo for good customer service. May 23, 2024 I have used this machine to make an average of 2 bottles a day, every day, since I received the replacement from Phillips. It's started not working right 2 days ago - the gas blows out in back of the bottle connector. I had my friend who is a maintenance professional look at it and he feels he'd have to take it apart because he thinks one of the seals has broken. Even if he got it apart, would he be able to get a new seal? I don't know but I feel I got my money's worth and ordered a new one today - still a Phillips but Stainless because it cost a little less as "Amazon's Choice." This time I purchased a warranty plan which is really not needed because Phillips, as shown above, stands by their product. But if this one works for a year, I really can't expect Phillips to pony up a new machine - it wouldn't be fair. I know - TLDR. Buy it - it's worth your money.

La base es plastica y muy bonita, tiene buenos terminados. ¡No viene con el tanque de CO2! Tengan cuidado con eso, no me fije y me tuve que esperar a comprar uno.

El agua queda muy bien. Muy buena la calidad del aparato. El tanque lo pedí de marca sodastream en otro marketplace y le quedó perfecto. Las recargas en CDMX son ultra sencillas con el servicio a domicilio sodastream.

Such a small machine. Works much better than most steam machines because this one decompress automatically. A great buy
