Purchased as a gift for my wife who enjoys reading autobiographic books. She says she is enjoying it and has already promised to pass it on to our daughter.

Written in her own words. The hype on TV with all the interviews were all for a reason. Cher's new book, Cher: The Memoir: Part One is not letting me down. I already know most of these stories about my idol's life but I am pleasantly surprised to learn many new unheard of stories. Great book for a fan and good book to learn about the best celebrity of all time.

5 Stars, looking forward to part 2. I have always been a fan of Cher's music. I was. not around for the "Sonny and Cher" era but, I have always been a fan of her solo music, her style, and many of her movies for years. When I found out she was releasing her memoirs, it was at the top of my list to get. This is a very long book. I can almost compare it to Barbra Streisand's book in length, except Barbra was all one book and Cher is doing two volumes. One thing I will say here about this book, it takes time to read. It is just not the 400+ page length, it is the content in it. I am usually not such a fan of memoirs that have to tell you every moment of someone's life. Like, this is what happened in grade 2, then grade 3, those kinds of stories get old fast because you can't tell me big events happened in every year of your life. Please, for memoirs, hit the important stuff, that stuff that makes you who you are and what you are trying to do. In the beginning, I got this sense with Cher's book. This book does start off pretty slow, in my opinion. She spends quite a bit of time documenting her grandmother's life, then her mother's life, and then Cher's own childhood. At times, this section can get quite dry and slow moving. My advice here, keep with it if you can. Some of the stuff, especially about Cher's relationship with her mother, does come up later when Cher is an adult. For me, this book really picked up when Cher met Sonny at sixteen years old. I am not sure if every fan would be surprised by some of the information presented here but, this fan was. Cher does not hold back on their early years, making "Sonny and Cher", and how Sonny treated her during their relationship, partnership, and marriage. I think some of the inside information about Sonny might be surprising but, it did not taint my memories of Sonny Bono. It just made me realize how strong a person Cher is, and what she had to do as a young women to get there. Does Cher make mistakes, yes, and she is open and honest about every single one here. This book ends right when Francis Ford Coppola tells her that she can get into the movie business, which Cher makes no secret she wants throughout her book, dating back to her childhood. In my view, this was the perfect place to end. It is like Cher has finally moved on from the whole "Sonny and Cher" life, and she is moving into herself in the next book. That makes me excited to read the next one.
