Best Bag Ever
I am a connoisseur of backpacks. I am VERY picky about my backpacks and it takes me forever to pick one out and then adjust to it. I've used a lot of different kinds and a lot of different brands and styles. I had never tried High Sierra before, but this backpack looked decent for the price so I decided to try it out.I recently started college after a 5 year break to start a family. This backpack is big enough to carry my college books and notebooks. I love that the pen-holder pocket has a built in organizer - it's got several little zippered pockets within the organizer too - perfect to hold staplers, white-out, index cards, etc. My planner fits in there perfectly. I like that this pocket opens up ALL THE WAY - it makes your junk easy to access. My favorite part is the key-ring attachment. It has a buckle so you put the buckle part on your key-ring, and then you can attach your keys inside the backpack so you don't have to hunt for them as you're freezing in the snow. Perfect! There is a soft zippered compartment on the top of the backpack in between the largest section and the middle section which is perfect for holding earbuds, phones, MP3 players, and I put my wallet in there too. It's nice because it's pretty well camouflaged in the backpack which makes your stuff harder to steal. The straps are extremely comfortable and the bag is very lightweight. This is probably the most comfortable bag I've ever used. The fabric seems very durable and heavy-duty. I like that it has 2 bottle holders - one for my water, one for my Diet Coke! One of the big pockets has a very small zipper opening, which I think is kinda dumb. It's still useful, but only for smaller books. The bag also smelled REALLY BAD when I first got it. I put some of those fabric softener pellets in it and it cleared up the scent after a few hours but it was really stinky. I also don't really care for the separate laptop compartment and wish it was detachable, but I don't carry my laptop with me anyway. Some backpacks are really big, which can sometimes be a pain as it gets more difficult to pull your stuff out with the fabric folding in on itself. This backpack is the perfect size and the fabric is thick enough that it doesn't flop all over itself.Overall, I LOVE this bag. It's sturdy, comfortable, and bright and cheerful (I have a color not listed here.) It's different than the 9,000 other bags on campus. It's the perfect size for all my junk and I love all the separate compartments to keep everything organized. I foresee it lasting for most of my college career, definitely.I used to be a fan of only JanSport bags. This bag pwns my JanSport by about 1,000 points. All hail High Sierra!

Great for College
I love this backpack. It is very well-made, tough, and durable. It holds a lot, though I always need more space. Believe me though, it holds enough. There is not a lot of padding for the laptop compartment. It does fit my 15 inch laptop just fine though. Some people have commented about the zipper guards. Yes, they are kind of annoying, but they are there for a purpose! The zippers work fine. I lug around heavy textbooks all day, every day and the bag is holding up fine...no hint of a strap fraying or interior cloth ripping. You can't abuse the bag all the time and expect it to never fall apart, but I feel it would be pretty difficult to damage at least the exterior of this bag. The inner lining I could see getting torn if you are carelessly shoving lots of heavy, jagged items inside. I like the side compartments and the separate zipper compartments are good for keeping items separated and organized. I don't know too much about how water proof this is as I have not "tested" that or been caught in a downpour with the bag. I feel the main purpose for this particular bag is for a student, but it could be used for travel (like any bag could be). It has room for a change of clothes, a pair of shoes, your laptop, some toiletries and a few other personal items. This is a solid, durable, spacious, attractive backpack with a great price point. I would recommend to any student for sure. There are probably better options for hikers and travelers, but you could certainly "get by" with this one for those purposes too.***Update: I have been using this backpack every day now for two years (both for college and personal use). It has seen heavy use and is still in great condition. All zippers still work well and there is no freeing or tearing on the inside nor outside. I would highly recommend this backpack. It is of great quality and very durable.

Pain to register and prefer older design
I'll share some product registration tips below, but first a few of my thoughts on the pack.I bought this to replace an older model that I purchased for $1.00 at a garage sale for business road trips. It quickly became my everyday carry and accompanied me on many trips across the U.S. and around the world. The Swerve is nearly identical to my old one. The only thing I miss is that my old one had an extra pocket inside the #2 (from the front) compartment. The organizer in the front compartment still serves the purpose, but is not quite as handy.Beyond that the Swerve is light, durable, has plenty of compartments for computer, books, keys, documents, media player, etc., etc., and is comfortable to haul around. The padded "Tech Spot" compartment is also nice to help absorb being tossed around during travel - though the bottom of the pack is not padded. (I added some packing foam to mine.)I found registering this pack a royal PITA! I even began to question if the pack was actually a High Sierra product. The instructions on the cardboard swing tags failed miserably. I ended up having to create an account at High Sierra and spent two days looking for the cloth tags inside the pack! With the pack front facing away from you, the tags will be I side the very back compartment, on the right side just below the end of the zipper. I had to move the Tech Spot padding out of the way to finally find them. Once I had do e all that product registration was pretty simple.

High Sierra Swerve Backpack, Grey Plaid, 19x13x7.75-Inch
Buying this backpack was the smartest college purchase I've ever made. As a commuter, I will spend 8 to 12 hours a day on campus, and I need to carry around 3-4 classes worth of books, my uniform and gear for work, my laptop and/or tablet and food for the day. I can fit all of that and more in this fantastic backpack.First, there is a huge pocket at the very back with space for a couple binders and 4 or 5 fat textbooks. There's also a well padded slot for a laptop and a smaller one for a tablet. This has a zipper so you can quickly get out your laptop or tablet.Next, there's a smaller pocket which I use for smaller textbooks and anything else I need to throw in there. Then there's another pocket in front of that! I like to stick my lunch in there because that way it's separate from my books in case anything spills. The smallest pocket is in the very front, and it has space for writing utensils and school supplies, a little slot for smaller odds and ends and a key chain hook. Each side has a cup holder, so I can carry both my water bottle and travel mug. There's also a slot on the left strap which is really handy for keeping my phone accessible. My favorite thing about this backpack is the little pocket at the top between the two large pockets. It's maybe 6 inches deep and I stick pens, headphones, chapstick, gum, my I.D. and other things I use often in there so I can get them quickly. This backpack has made my life so much easier. It's sturdy, good quality, comfortable, well padded, the zippers work well and looks great. I can always find everything so easily. If you want a fantastic quality backpack with plenty of space but that you can keep organized, I would definitely recommend this one. I don't have any complaints!

Good quality
We've owned a lot of backpacks in our time and this was my favorite. Strong, well made, good zipper, and stood up well in our trip.

This is the best backpack I have ever owned. I love the size, the color and the quality.
This is the best backpack I have ever owned. I am 72 years old and have had a lot of backpacks in those years. I am blessed with great physical health. So, I play competitive table tennis 5-7 times per week for 3-5 hours at a time. I wanted a backpack with a lot of good sized zippered compartments. I usually carry 4-5 table tennis paddles in their own zippered cases in the 2 large pockets. I have one pocket I use to for snacks and bottled coconut water, the small one at the top for my keys and some table tennis balls, and the 5th pocket holds my table tennis cleaning bottles and sponges. This bag is huge and exactly what I was looking for.I have not tried to use it for my laptops, but there would be plenty of room. It is no wonder this backpack is ranked #1 in the brief cases category on Amazon. It his well made and the zippers work very well. Remember there are 2 pockets that are zipped under water protective lips. I imagine I could throw this pack in a lake and it would survive for a period without leaking. The 1 think I had to fix were the shoulder straps. If you use both shoulder straps, no issue. But, they slipped off of my shoulder as I usually just sling the pack over one of my shoulders when I use it. So I purchased 2 of the (B07177XGKM) SongWei Replacement Shoulder Pads Velcro Adjustable with Memory Foam Long and Comfortable Black-2Pcs for $12.99 and they are awesomely cool and work great at a great price. I don't believe there is a better pair of shoulder pads for backpack straps on Amazon.I love the size, the color and the quality.

Excellent quality!
Excellent quality! This backpack lasts years! The zippers are very strong and sturdy and the material is excellent quality. Our 16 year old has been using this backpack for about 6 years and still loves it. She did break a zipper after about 3 years (due to over-stuffing) so we replaced with the same backpack.
