A realistic approach to looking your best at any age!
This book is full of tips and tricks to keep us looking our best at any age. Advice was laid out and explicit with photos, so it was easy to understand. It also unexpectedly made me feel better about the aging process which can be scary, as it happens to us all. I just turned 51 and already, I've been able to improve my appearance immensely and feel more confident when I leave the house. And it's true what the book says, "Less is more."CC

Has nice tips, but wish the instructions were more detailed
I love makeup books and anything makeup-related, and when I saw this book on Amazon while I was browsing, I thought I'd pick it up since I've noticed that I can't quite wear the same makeup at forty-one as I did at thirty-one. This is a really great book that gives useful information for women over forty, but there are a few drawbacks. The positives:* good overview of the tools/brushes to have in your makeup toolbox* nice overview of the best formulations of makeup for the over-40 age group* fantastic step-by-step instructions of how to do things like contour your face to visually lift it* excellent breakdown of how shape your brows in order to lift your eyes; the sample photos are really valuable* nice section on selecting glasses and modifying your makeup to wear with glassesThe two main negatives have to do in the section called Looks at the back of the book, where Morris gives you twenty-six makeup looks broken down into steps. While I love this section, most of the photos are so tiny that they are impossible to see, especially for over-forty eyes. This instructions here could also be much more detailed. For instance, the cover look with the winged eyeliner was a reason I bought this book since I struggle to do winged eyeliner on myself. While Morris gives the excellent tip of using Scotch tape to get the angle right, she doesn't explain how to graduate the liner along the lash line, so that it starts thin at the inner edge of the eye and widens out. Those are the kind of small tips that I was hoping this book would contain. That being said, this is still a nice book to add to your makeup library. The women in it are stunning, and I love seeing how women over fifty can still rock a smoky eye or red lip and look elegant and classy while doing so. It inspired me to not be afraid of bolder makeup, even at my age.

I'd recommend this to all my friends.
A great book, especially for those of us getting older. Most beauty books completely ignore the over 40 set. This book shows tips I'd never heard of; has these tips applied on women of varied ages; and, I have applied these tips on myself, and noticed an appreciable difference. There are lots of great pictures to walk you through the application procedures. A book for those who want to look better and fresher with cosmetics, not surgery, and without trying to look 20 again.

Very time consuming impractical, dated techniques that will only age you, such as dark heavily completely lined eyes and contour
If you're looking for a makeup guide for a 40+ woman wait for a more practical makeup artist like Carmindy or Bobbi Brown to write it. There is definitely a market for an over 40 makeup guide, but Rae Morris is not the one to write it. From looking at her work, she seems to specialize in making already beautiful women look more glamorous, but not necessarily prettier and certainly not younger. She doesn't seem to have a feel for ordinary women the way that Bobbi Brown and certainly Carmindy do. Most older women are short on time often taking care of dependent children, elderly relatives and working at the same time. They are often far sighted , making applying intricate eye makeup extremely difficult without their glasses (especially if their hands have become less steady). Rae Morris' makeup techniques require a ton of time, very good eyesight, and perfect manual dexterity. Most makeup manuals have a quick and easy 10-minute makeup chapter. This one does not.The makeup techniques are from the 70's and 80's which is not a good idea for people who actually wore makeup in the 70's and '80s. We're talking major contouring and dark eyeliner all around the eyes which makes you looked dated and older at the same time even when expertly applied. And let's face it, not many mature women are going to have the time or the talent to expertly apply it. I hate the look of contouring. It looks incredibly phony and only works in photographs of very young models. It looks horrible on real life people older than 20. That dark, gel eyeliner completely around the eye looks so dated and flatters no one.Rae Morris also recommends redrawing your brows to make them look less arched, even if that is their natural shape. REALLY!?

Too focused on older ages
This book would be good for ages 50+. I was not expecting it to be so focused on older ages. The synopsis, other reviews and photo on the cover did not give this impression. I am 40 years old and thought this book was set for a much older audience. There are some good tips on false eyelashes, but when buying another book I wouldnt choose this one.

All over 50s women, you need this book!
This book is exactly as I imagined it would be. I used one of her techniques today; it took 15 minutes and made me look fab!

More Inspiration than Explanation
Beautifully photographed, this book by Australian make-up artist Rae Morris is designed to help women dealing with age related challenges. Her contouring advice is amazing and her instructions on false lash application are spot on. It includes a number of helpful eye color charts and a thorough review of necessary tools. However in order to achieve the looks featured one must have a degree of proficiency in make-up application. If you have a good command of the basics, you should be able to recreate the featured faces. She does not list the makeups she uses nor does she suggest any specific brands.I enjoyed this book. Beauty has no age limits and the clever application of makeup will help women look their best regardless of years. Thoughtful consideration of changes and subtle adjustments can make a world of difference. The sophisticated, polished makeups will inspire and encourage all women. Recommended.
