Reliable
Recommended to a friend! I absolutely love this product. The charge lasts about 2 weeks, easy to use and light weight. It doesn’t feel heavy or uncomfortable for my dog. Also my dog is loves to swim and so far it’s worked even being in water. Also it is a good price!! Amazing product. Helps me keep track of my fur baby! Don’t even have to worry.

Peace of Mind in a Tiny Tracker
The Tractive Smart Dog GPS Tracker has been an absolute game‑changer for me. It’s incredibly easy to use, super reliable, and honestly gives me a level of peace of mind I didn’t know I needed. Knowing exactly where my Maggie — my sweet Aussiedoodle who loves to explore — is at any moment has taken away so much worry. The real‑time tracking is fast and accurate, the app is simple to navigate, and the alerts are instant. Whether Maggie is napping in the yard or sneaking off on one of her little adventures, I can check on her with just a tap. It feels like having an extra layer of protection wrapped around her. If you love your dog like family and want that constant reassurance that they’re safe, this tracker is worth every bit. It’s honestly one of the best pet purchases I’ve ever made.

1-YEAR, NON-REFUNDABLE SUB PURCHASE BEFORE TRACKING CAN BE ACTIVATED.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Unlike every other iPhone app that has in-app purchases, Tractive doesn't offer a free trial period. Silly me. I'm so comfortable purchasing from Apple's App Store, I never noticed there's no free trial. In order to connect the app, you give them a credit card #. Fine. Normal. But there's no trial period. Tractive charged $156.00 on day one. When the device turned out to be defective (and the only way to know was to activate the so-called GPS) they're like "HAHA, GOTCHA!!!' I didn't notice the charge on my credit card until a couple of months after I had purchased AND returned AND reported it was utterly useless as a tracker. I disputed the charge. They had the gall to dispute my dispute by saying my credit card was good. They sound like a 5-year-old justifying stealing candy because it was within reach at the checkout lane. They sent the bank a completely irrelevant screenshot of someone's 5-star review (not on Amazon) of a $49 cat collar, saying it was an example of a product description "presented to the cardholder before they completed the transaction. Dig a little and it turns out to be a celebrity endorsement. Had nothing to do with a 12-month subscription that must be paid before the device can be activated. Which is exactly how the App Store works, but the sub can be canceled during a trial period. And of course Amazon has a 30-day return period, even if you don't like the color. But in my case it didn't perform as claimed. Even worse: I went to purchase a Whistle Tracker, which I had several years ago. Great product, great phone service, and month-to-month cellular. Plus their site tracked the dog 24 hours showing the level of activity. (Came in handy when my neighbor accused my dog of barking for hours under his bedroom window, and the Whistle showed she was inside asleep the whole time.) Well, don't buy that either because Tractive has acquired the company. They've no doubt turned it into the same garbage as Tractive. UPDATE: TRACKER SHOWING PET IS IN HOME ZONE. IN ANOTHER NEIGHBORHOOD. SHE IS RIGHT HERE WITH ME. This gadget is worse than useless. I am returning, and purchasing a different brand. I am infuriated. They make a product for protecting pets, but this company doesn't seem to care about pets. My dog was rescued from horrific conditions. I adopted her and have been working hard to keep her safe, trained, well-fed, and treated like a family member. She's my companion and protector and I AM HERS! A week ago she figured out how to escape the gate and went on quite an excursion through the neighborhood. I had an Apple AirTag on her collar, from my deceased 16-year-old dog which was enough. But AirTags don't show in the FindMy app unless it's not moving. AirTags also need to ping off other iPhones. This is a young, strong, very active dog. After chasing her for an hour in 90º heat, I got a call from someone whom she had approached. (Putting one's phone number on the collar in big numbers is the best when you have a pet who never met a stranger. I went straight to Amazon and ordered this tracker. It arrived in about a week. I set it up yesterday. Today, she escaped again. I normally don't review until I have a lot of experience with a purchase. I live on a half acre. Apparently that's too small to create a geofence, Maybe there's a way to alter it. But I was out looking for her while the app was telling me she's safe at home. I spotted her in my next door neighbor's heavily wooded yard. Then the next yard and the next. The homeowner was just getting home and got out of the car to pick up her mail. I yelled. She spotted my dog and spoke in a friendly way, causing the dog to come to her. (Luckily she likes both dogs and humans.) However, this is not what I signed up for. There is no way except email to contact this company. Fine for most electronic gadgets, but unacceptable to find a lost pet who is in danger of getting hit by a car. There is no way to draw a geofence that is accurate and useful. Tractive is well-aware their devices are not reliable. They make their money scamming people. I disputed the charge, since I had returned the item. They disputed my dispute. I've disputed their nonsensical dispute. Update to follow. Also filing a complaint with the App Store.

Great device, works well and worth the money
I purchased my Tractive device about a year ago. My dog is a LAb/Pyrenese mix that loves to roam. We live in a rural mountain area without fences, so knowing where he is in real time became very important. I've been very happy with the device, and I have peace of mind knowing when he's off property and when I need to track him down. Thankfully, not every day As long as you have cell service, it works, that's the only negative.

A good choice, but with caveats
This tracker does just about everything it claims to do, and does it well. There's at least one big caveat to this, (which I'll deal with in a moment) and several smaller issues you should consider. The fact is that this tracker, like ALL such trackers, is not a perfect solution. It has several shortcomings, but if you're unfortunate enough to lose your dog, it's still way better than no tracker at all. 1. The tracker is fairly compact, and fits securely on a standard collar. CAVEAT: it does add a little weight to your dog's collar, and although the manufacturer claims it can be worn by dogs as small as 8.8 lbs, if your dog is much under 25 lbs you might want to consider attaching it to their harness instead of the collar. 2. The tracker is well-made, well designed, and looks like it will last a while. It allows you to set up power-saving zones (in your house, for example) in order to conserve the battery's charge. CAVEAT: it's a rechargeable device, so like all such devices, its lifespan is defined by the eventual failure of the battery. At that point you'll just have to discard a perfectly good, functional tracker because the battery's not replaceable. Such is the bane of rechargeable devices in a throw-away culture. Also, although the manufacturer claims "up to 14 days" between charges, my experience is that it's closer to a week when you have a power-saving zone active, and 4 or 5 days without. The app will notify you when the battery's running low. 3. The tracker mostly provides an accurate picture of where your dog is. CAVEAT: the trace you see on the map is not always dead accurate, but that's not the tracker's fault; due to the vagaries of GPS, it can't be. But it's close enough to enable you to see pretty well where Fido is, and when you set the tracker to record a walk, for example, it's usually very accurate. 4. The tracker's a breeze to set up, and connects well with WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and cellular signals. CAVEAT- AND THIS IS THE BIG ONE: to work effectively, the tracker needs all four systems available. If you're in an area with no cell coverage, you can't track your dog. In fact, you won't even be able to check their health metrics without a cell signal. We bought two of these units for our dogs because we were taking them with us into the wild blue yonder of Canada. Well, not exactly the wilderness per se, but a fairly isolated house in the woods. We had WiFi and GPS, but no cellular coverage. In this scenario, the trackers simply don't work. This can be a big problem, because this is exactly the kind of location in which you want to be able to find your dog. It seems like the tracker should be able to locate and track your dog with just the GPS signal and WiFi (for your phone) but no. So the bottom line is this: if you spend most of your time in your neighborhood or traveling in towns and cities, this is an excellent tracker. But venture anywhere without cellular coverage, and you're SOL as far as locating your dog is concerned. The 'radar' function will work, but that just uses your phone's Bluetooth and has a limited range (100ft if you're lucky, 30ft or less if you're not) and isn't particularly helpful as it indicates the proximity of your dog, but not the direction. To be clear, this is far better than having no tracker at all, and WAY better than Air Tags, which rely on your dog being close to people with iPhones or other Apple devices. But don't assume that this tracker will work in all situations. As the manufacturer correctly claims, the device is "rugged enough for outdoor adventures." Just be sure that those adventures don't take you too far off the beaten track and out of cellular coverage, because then you're truly in the wilderness.

Amazon Review – Tractive Smart Dog GPS
I recently started using the Tractive GPS Dog Tracker for my dog, and overall I’ve been really impressed! Setup was quick and easy, and the app is very user-friendly—even if you’re not super tech-savvy. I love being able to track my dog’s location in real time, especially when we’re out and about or at events. It gives me so much peace of mind knowing I can check exactly where she is at any moment. One of my favorite features is the virtual fence. I get instant alerts if my dog leaves a designated safe zone, which is a huge plus for safety. The activity tracking is also a nice bonus—it’s fun to see how active my pup is throughout the day. Battery life has been pretty solid for me, and the device itself seems durable and lightweight enough that my dog doesn’t mind wearing it. The only thing to keep in mind is that it does require a subscription for full functionality, but honestly, for the peace of mind it provides, I think it’s worth it. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Tractive GPS tracker to any dog owner—especially if you have an adventurous pup or just want that extra layer of security. 🐶📍

Great collar!!!
I have had this collar almost 1 year. I love it!!! Our cabin is in a cellular dead zone, so anything that runs off of cell towers are hit and miss. This collar however never has failed me. It always shows me where my dog is. The battery life is good and recharges quickly. I also like that it has a light on it, so at night I can turn it on and locate my dog easily. My dog is a GSP and has put this collar through water, cattails, thickets, you name it. The collar has held up!!! I did have to get a new holder to attach to her collar, but Tractive gave me credit for the days I had to wait to get the replacement. The collar is light weight and fits on to the collar she wears all the time. Best money I ever spent!!!

Could be SO much better!
This Tractive device is a GREAT idea, and we're much less stressed about the whereabouts of our dog, for the most part. Here are the pros and cons: PROS: - Being able to trigger "Live" mode and track exactly where our dog is on our acreage is fantastic. - It recharges with USB-C connections, which makes it trivial to charge since we're all USB-C in our house. - The "Health" tracking is fun, including Leaderboards for groups like nearest 50 dogs with Tractives, ranking within breed, and ranking across all Tractive dogs for things like sleep and activity. CONS: - The Tractive offers a power-saving mode based on if it senses your home wifi signal. This is an interesting idea, however the issue is twofold for us: first, we went to great pains to ensure our wifi covers our entire property, and second, when the Tractive senses your home wifi and goes into power-saving mode you cannot enable live tracking unless you wait up to 20 minutes for it to do it's scheduled check-in. - If you don't use the low-power mode described in the above bullet (we don't) then battery life is not great. Ours consumes between 35%-45% every 24 hours, so we have added "charging the Tractive" to our daily device charging routine. - The stretchy strap that holds the Tractive to the collar tore within the first 3 months and we had to replace it with aftermarket straps. Note we have one dog and no kids so the Tractive wasn't being pulled/tugged by another creature, just our dog out running around by herself. - The Live Tracking fails to engage about 30%-40% of the time and we have to retry it. So far we haven't urgently needed tracking but if/when we do we're not confident in it kicking in quickly or reliably. Overall we'd rather have this device than not have it, but, man, it could be SO much better with just a few tweaks. For example, if they'd make the Live Tracking activation delay something shorter than 20 minutes when in power-saving mode that would be great - like, add middle option that extends battery life just not as much. That being said, for people with minimal wifi range the power-saving feature might work great, but for us with acreage and outdoor wifi access points it would mean that if we used power-saving mode and wanted to find our dog on our property we have to do it the old fashioned way, walking around and looking (she's deaf so we can't call her). The issues we have with the Tractive seem like things they could fix with future firmware updates, so we'll see. Bottom line is we're not sorry we bought it but we're frustrated with its limitations and cheap/shoddy straps.

Excellent!!!!!
When our dog ran off during a walk, it was one of those moments that makes your heart stop. She had an Apple AirTag on her collar, but once she darted into the thick brush, the AirTag was basically useless without a nearby phone to ping off. That experience made it clear we needed something with real GPS tracking. Enter the Tractive Smart GPS Tracker, and honestly, it’s been a game changer. The device gives you live tracking that’s accurate down to a few metres, even in wooded areas. You can follow your dog’s movements in real time through the app, and it updates constantly without the lag we had with other devices. The virtual fence feature is another standout. You can set a safe zone around your home or favourite walking area, and the moment your dog crosses that invisible boundary, you get an alert. It’s quick, reliable, and gives huge peace of mind. Beyond tracking, the health and activity reports are surprisingly useful. It logs your dog’s daily movement, rest, and overall activity level, almost like a fitness tracker for pets. It’s a nice bonus to see patterns that help you understand their habits better. The device itself is lightweight, waterproof, and easy to attach to a collar. Battery life is solid, and the subscription plan for GPS service feels worth every cent for the reliability it brings. After trying both an AirTag and the Tractive, I can say there’s no comparison. The Tractive Smart GPS Tracker is designed for pets, and it shows in every feature. I 100% recommend it for anyone with a dog who loves to explore—or one that’s just a little too fast when they see a squirrel.

Easy setup. Good app. No actual monthly plans though.
I ordered this for my 9kg Pugzu, after struggling to setup a more basic one, but feeling it was about time to get a dog tracker, considering we're on holiday 200+ miles away next week and I would hate for him to run off and us regret not getting a tracker. I'm also a volunteer for searching for lost dogs with drones and on foot and we're always telling people to get a tracker. The size is good and is fine on my dogs narrow collar. You can get bigger ones for bigger collared dogs. It's simple to use; one button and the app. You can even turn the LED lights on via the app or make it play music. Tracking seems good. It works well, despite the poor hone signal by me. The app works well and is easy to understand. I wa disappointed by the fact that you have to pay for ALL the pans in advance, even the basic one. I. The end, I opted for the 2 year basic plan for £108, but will probably upgrade to premium shortly for £12 for the 2 years. This enables sharing with family and friends and records 365 days of recordings, rather than just today and yesterday. I love the Strava integration. I'll use this regularly and it could replace me using my Smart watch, or at least track alongside. Apart from the plan issue, it's really good and definitely recommended. My to: stick it on PayPal pay in 4. £27/month for 4 months is much more manageable if you're on a budget.

Geweldig apparaat.
