These are designed for an 2-cell flashlight (AA, C, or D) that uses a PR-style bulb. They will not compare in any real way to a modern tactical light, or even newer generation LED lights from Mag-lite or other brands. However, they will make older lights much more useful. I have been replacing blown bulbs in several lights, mostly industrial (yellow and black plastic) lights that are for work or emergency purposes. These are great for that, since they are a direct replacement, and require no modifications. The emitter is also well-placed for these lights, and works well with the reflectors, providing a soft center-spot with decent spill. These are perfect for those style lights, or any older incandescent 2-cell lights. Since they are more efficient, batteries will last longer. Some tips: If the light will be used occasionally - such as an emergency light, I would go with Energizer lithium batteries, in C or D-cell adapters if needed, since they last a long time, and have a very good shelf life. They also don't leak. That way, if the lights go out, you will have a reliable emergency light ready-to-go for years. These also seem to work well with Carbon-Zinc batteries, which are inexpensive, but don't last as long. One is a side by side comparison - I have two of these old two AA battery flashlights. The original bulb is on the left, this new LED bulb is on the right. You can see how much whiter the light is with this bulb - both on the wall and looking at the flashlight itself. The other two show the old and the new shining on a wall. Similar pattern with the distinct outer ring and the brighter inner area. Really pleased with these LED replacement bulbs. Even if you could figure out a way to get it to fit, the results will be poor-a 224 bulb has a lens on it, and does not rely on a reflector to work properly, but these bulbs do not have a lens on them, and do rely on the reflector to work properly. I'm not sure if there is a good quality LED 224 type bulb, you may want to try searching for one **Q: Why doesn't it work? installed in two flashlights.** A: I don't know, unless your flashlight is using reverse polarity If so, see if the batteries will make proper contact if you put them in backwards. I used then to upgrade my two "vintage' Garrity flashlights. My flashlights are now brighter than I thought possible, with a nicely focused beam. What makes these upgrade bulbs work so well is the placement of LED high up in the clear plastic bulb, in the same position as the the old incandescent filaments used to be. So, the light from the LED hits the reflector where it was designed to work.
