Horrid Henry Fun In The Sun

Top value and a great read for my 9 year-old

Although all the stories in this collection have appeared in previous books, this is a great collection of festive stories featuring favourite characters. All my children have loved Horrid Henry and I think he is perhaps the only character that has appealed equally to my sons and my daughter. When my daughter took this into school as her reading book, just about everyone asked if they could borrow it and so I imagine this would be a pretty popular choice with most children in the run up to Christmas and an ideal Christmas stocking filler. So, which stories are included? In this book are: Horrid Henry’s Christmas Play Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman Horrid Henry’s Christmas Presents Horrid Henry’s Ambush Horrid Henry’s Christmas Horrid Henry’s Christmas Lunch How to Survive Christmas Chaos with Horrid Henry All of these are stories, except for, “How to Survive Christmas Chaos with Horrid Henry,” which is actually a ‘survival guide’ full of activities, quizzes, advice on how to survive Christmas Day with your relatives and sneaky tips on how to remove chocolates from the tree… My personal favourite, and my daughter’s, is the brilliant, “Horrid Henry’s Christmas Play,” in which Henry is forced to play the Innkeeper with only one word, while both Moody Margaret and Perfect Peter have main parts. Determined not to be side-lined, Henry decides to change his part just a little and hilarity ensues! However, all of the stories included in this book are excellent and this is an ideal Christmas read for children of approx 6+.

I will give Horrid Henry Rules the World 4 stars because my two grandsons love the Horrid Henry series. My grandsons, 7 and 6, live many distant miles from me, and although I do visit them every few months (at least), in between my fly-in visits I read books and record them so they can have Grandma reading them a bedtime story. The boys and I have spent many nights laughing at the antics of Horrid Henry, but I do involve them in conversations about the fictional nature of Henry and that his fictional behavior is not always appropriate. I want them to enjoy fiction, but I also want them to understand that fiction is not real-life. I would not want my two grandsons emulating Horrid Henry, but I want them to enjoy the books in a kind of Walter Mitty imaginary world. I think these books are best read to children by an adult so discussions can take place. Even in my recordings, I ask the questions about Henry's behavior that I would if I were sitting with them and reading.

If only I'd thought of some of these tricks in my childhood battles with my sister. If you love Horrid Henry what could be better than getting three lots in one book - especially since a single book doesn't take my daughter long to get through. Great value - especially since she's now read it through 3 times!

My granddaughter absolutely loves Horrid Henry, so this book was an absolute delight.

This book is my one of the favourite book o love the characters in this book. The nagutiness of horrid Henry is very funny. While reading this book I starts laughing because of the ideas of horrid Henry to lose his brother Peter thus this book is very nice and story is very funny.
