In the ancient war against the monstrous creatures known as Horrors, many Makai Priestesses have fought and died in battle, yet no woman has ever been chosen to wear the mystic armor of the Makai Knights. Kouga, the current bearer of the gold wolf armor Garo, doesn't believe it's even possible, but when his quest to destroy the Horror Karma thrusts him into conflict alongside the fiery Priestess Rekka, he's forced to acknowledge that the female is often the deadlier of the species! Because Rekka has a personal score to settle with Karma, and she's determined to destroy that Horror herself! It will be all Kouga and his Mado Ring Zaruba can do to keep the three of them alive long enough to do it in the GARO universe's first spectacular feature film - GARO: RED REQUIEM!

Be weary of the reviews. It seemed that Amazon combined the official release of this movie with the bootleg dvd copies of this movie. Anything prior to April 10 2018 should not be taken into consideration in regards to the official blu-ray release.

Another mission for Kouga.
WARNING: For some reason, Amazon combined the listing of Garo: Red Requiem (Blu-ray), which is what I am reviewing, with the listing for some bootleg DVDs of Garo: Beast of the Demon Night. I don't know why they did it with this movie but pay close attention to what the reviews are actually reviewing. DVD is bootleg, Blu-ray is not.Kouga's mission has brought him to a city being plagued by the followers of a Horror known Karma. There, he is aided by the local Makai Priests. However, one of the Priests, Rekka, has a personal grudge against Karma and sets out to kill the Horror herself, bringing her and Kouma into conflict. The three new Makai Priests are as follow:Akaza, the oldest of the three. Serves as both teacher and leader to his two younger comrades. Runs a pawn shop. His wife and daughter were killed by a Horror.Rekka, a Makai Priestess who wants to kill Karma. Reckless and headstrong, she is the daughter of a Makai Knight by the name of Kengi. Her father served as Kouga's mentor following the death of Kouga's father and was killed by Karma, resulting in her urge to be the one to find and kill the creature. Fights mostly using hand-to-hand combat.Shiguto, the last of the three. A pupil of Akaza's, he doesn't get much focus, serving mostly as another hand.Besides the three Makai Priests, there is also the Horror Karma and her followers.Karma is a powerful Horror that resides in a mirror and is responsible for the death of many Makai Knights and Priests along with regular people. Relies on her followers to bring her her newest victim.Kurusu was a painter who was turned into a Horror by Karma, giving him his youth back and "reuniting" him with his deceased lover.Shion has the appearance and name of Kurusu's deceased lover but is, in fact, a corpse of one of Kurusu's models' that he killed during a breakdown, Karma morphing and reanimating it into its current state. Because of this, she has a weird, big eye look on her face at all times.Being a theatrical release, Red Requiem was able to have a larger budget. This is shown by allowing the movie to be filled with extras and allowing for better CG than the more obvious green-screen used in the show. However, while the CG is better, it still looks disconnected to the live-action scenery and making it obvious it is CG. The fight choreography is also more theatrical than the show. Whereas the show's choreography can be stylish at times, it mostly is functional. Red Requiem's, on the other hand, is mostly style, making it more obvious they are not really hitting one another, which is a shame really since the fight choreography is one of the highlights of the series. However, the music is top notch as always.Overall, I found Red Requiem to be okay. It is a standalone story set between Beast of the Demon Night and the second Garo TV series that I feel would serve as a great way to introduce new people to the series as it explains what Horrors, Makai Knights, and Priests are at the beginning and actually have the Priests play a major role in the story, unlike how the Priests are introduced in the original series. However, to a someone who has watched more of the franchise, it would be seen more as a standard story.Note: Red Requiem is the first of the Garo releases by Kraken to contain both the original Japanese and an English dub. The other releases are just the original Japanese with subs. However, I can't judge the quality of the dub since I can't stand dubs of live-action movies and shows. The disconnect between the movement of their mouths and the audios messes with my head. I only found out it has a dub because it defaults to it when you start the film unless you go into the options beforehand.
