At least to me since the info seems inconsistent or puzzling. The package says #2 and #5 can cut "thin metal." 1/4" is not what I would call "thin." But you should be fine with 1/4" aluminum. Why? When cutting metal, at least with a fret saw which is what one should use for that, you want to have 3 teeth touching the metal at all times during the cut, since fret saw blades are 1-direction only, and if you don't get enough teeth involved, the "point" (cutting edge), which is very steep and if the blade drops so that the tooth meets the metal full on, it "hangs" badly. The edge of the metal hits a near-vertical angled tooth. The same physics should apply with any other blade/tooth pattern. BUT, if the blade tooth is symmetrical (unlike a fret saw) the cutting edge's slope might be gentle enough to be more manageable since the tooth would fall on a less-abrupt/steep tooth edge. I can't see the profile very well on the "close up" view provided but they don't especially look symmetrical (?). So, then, what's confusing? it's that blades 2 and 5 do allow, for a 1/4" thick piece (cut length), 3 teeth on the cut at all times (20 tpi => 5 on the cut, and 12.5 gives you 3.125, but 7, the one they don't say can is under, at 2.875. So 7 should be a problem for metal less than 1/4" thick if the teeth are not symmetrical. So unless by "thin" they mean ≥1/4" which is hard to believe, I actually have no idea what they are talking about, since you could with 2 & 5 cut any metal that is 1/4" thick. Maybe you should contact the manufacturer who should know and maybe does... But I wonder who provided those specs on the pkg, so who knows? Actually, if you are going to cut very much metal I recommend using a fret saw which is made specifically for that. You could also look at a "hack" saw which cuts most metal of most thicknesses, but nowhere nearly as precisely as a fret saw and with much more waste (gold "waste" is something you want to avoid). This is an assortment pack with #'s 2,5, and 7 blades with 20 TPI (teeth per inch) for the size 2, 12.5 TPI for the size 5, and 11.5 TPI for the size 7. the cutting thicknesses are from 3/16ths to2 inches thick. Will cut hard and soft woods and nonferrous metals if sandwiched between 2 sheets of waste board. From my experience, I used it on bone, horn and antler, some exotic woods and 10-12 gauge copper and sheet silver. It does cut cleanly and I never experienced burrs in the metal. Did not experience chip out on the other materials.
