I have a minivan with a roof rack, but if it's just me and a couple of the dogs headed to the beach for the day or renting a cabin for a long weekend, I'd rather take the Kia Soul, which doesn't have a roof rack. Either way, I've wanted a rooftop cargo carrier for ages, but I always pictured those bulky, hard-shell beasts that live on your car like permanent hardshell luggage ticks.The iBirdie surprised me—in the best way. It arrived in a shockingly small box, and while I was expecting something semi-rigid, what I got was a soft-sided, ultra-sturdy, weather-resistant, easily secured hauler that doesn't damage your car's exterior, flexes to fit odd shapes, packs away easily, and works with or without a roof rack.I’ve used it on the two different vehicles, and it secured solidly both times. On my latest trip, I packed a guitar, a suitcase, 2 medium boxes with a kitchen appliance in each, random beach gear, and a bunch of the dog’s toys, bowls, food, etc. inside a large sized lidded tote box, with room to spare —and everything arrived safe and dry, despite driving through a somewhat nasty rainstorm at 70mi/hr. for at least an hour or more.Taking it off was just as easy and the best part? I didn’t have to drive around with a plastic rooftop barnacle the rest of the trip. It folds down small—though I’ll admit I store it in that lidded tote box I mentioned instead of the included bag, just for convenience, and because I know myself well enough to know that I'll get all weird and have to thoroughly hyper-sanitize the carrier inside-out if I'm going to tightly pack it away in the storage bag (which has gone on to hold other things, anyway).For camping, beach runs, or just getting your backseat back, this thing’s a smart, flexible solution and a great value for the quality.* I should note that I have diminished hearing in one ear, and play my music rather loudly, so I can't speak to whether or not it was noisy, flapping, or whistling. Didn’t fit vehicle type for vehicles crossbars. Easy return tho. Very durable product tho., they do not use cheap material. 3 stars because it was the wrong vehicle type.

This cargo carrier is made from heavy duty pvc fabric, tough fabric that zips easily closed. Despite how it is shown, though, there is no internal structure for the sturdy shape shown. The bag measures 56"x45"x20", with 3 attached straps that get clipped to the car once you pull back the car seal. A nice non-slip mat is included to cover the car's roof prior to placing the storage bag on. Used during a storm, everything remained dry. The bag holds a lot of items, perfect for storm evacuation needs.

Used this on a recent out-of-state trip and it was pretty impressive. My wife drives an SUV and it was her SUV that we drove. She does have a rook rack and I had zero issues getting this thing mounted. We traveled for roughly 18 hours at highway speeds and it stayed secure the whole way, no shifting or flapping around.It held a ton of stuff too. I packed it full with bulky bags, blankets, and some tools, and there was still room left. We hit rain a couple times, and everything inside stayed bone dry. No water seepage at all. This is one of those rare things that just works how you’d want it to without giving you problems.

For this to work properly, you must fill it completely and try to match the dimensions of the pouch. Otherwise, it just kind of flops around and acts as a big sail for your car.

We made out way cross country a the start of April. There was wind and rain and snow as we went over the Rockies. This was in the back of my truck. Its an open bed so I needed something to water proof all the stuff we had packed for the trip. This save our bacon. The storage capacity takes up more than half the bed. The material is thick and feels high quality. It absolutely performed its function. What i really love it isn't taking up a bunch of storage space, as it just folds back down into a nice compact size, unlike the hard shell ones.A note, this was in the bed of the truck so it didnt need a lot of consideration as to how I packed it up. I would expect that due to it being a really thick, water proof, zipper bag, packing would take more consideration if you load it up on top of your car. Boxes, or maybe a piece of ply wood on the bottom would help it go much smoother.For the money, this can't be beat.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐The iBirdie car roof bag is totally awesome! We have had it filled up to the 18 cubic feet, with all of our gear, during a recent road trip. The material is awesome — it’s made of heavy-duty 1200D fabric, and fully waterproof, in case of any surprises in the weather (like rain).It sat snugly atop our SUV even though we don’t have a roof rack. The anti-slip mat and door hooks that were included helped to make installation a breeze, and kept everything very stable while driving, even on the highway. What I was particularly struck by was how it stayed put and how quiet it was — no flapping or riding up.It’s roomy (46L x 34W x 20H inches), big enough to hold four carry-on suitcases and three smaller bags, and yet just aerodynamic enough that it didn’t seem to have a drastic impact on our gas mileage. It then folded flat for easy, compact storage when the trip was over.This carrier is above and beyond what I was expecting. If you are seeking additional space for camping, vacations, or long-distance travel, this is a great investment. Highly recommend!
