Does this work on straight hair?

Yes. Blow dry and flat iron your hair as normal

Does the smell bother anyone else? I really want to try it but the smell is so strong I'm concerned it will give me a headache after a while.

The smell doesn't bother me but I don't use the product in my hair, I use it in my daughters hair. She doesn't seem to be affected by the smell.
