ADJ Products DP-415R 4 Channel DMX512 Dimmer Pack

Works as advertised. If you are using it with LED lighting, make sure to use plug in dummy loads such as the ADJ LED579.

I am using this simple little unit to control six Par 38 and two Chauvet H6 via Enttec Open DMX USB and a DMX ControlPro app on my Macbook Pro. This was the missing piece in my home studio lighting set-up. I picked it up open box from Amazon and couldn't be more happy. Only thing to watch out for is that the dimmer pack would only work when put last in the DMX chain (not by number value of the address but the actual DMX cable hook up). The way I got my set-up to work is coming out of my computer via Thunderbolt 3 into the Enttec, from there via DMX into the H6s and out of there via DMX into the ADJ dimmer pack. I first tried coming out of the Enttec into the ADJ and from there out into the H6s and strangely enough that would not work at all. In my previous set-up the H6s already had 16 assigned DMX addresses in my lighting app, so I just fit the ADJ addresses in, where I had four open DMX channels to assign the four ADJ dimmers to. Nice, compact little unit! Works perfectly fine!

This review may be for a niche audience, but if you're chasing dimmable LED's with any previous model of dimmer pack, the effect will lack the subtle ramping on and off effect you'd have with incandescent bulbs unless you were using a DMX controller to add a slight cross fade effect. This pack has a built-in ramping effect that does a great job near-perfectly replicating that effect by default. Note: I'm not sure if you can override this effect with a controller- which would be a problem for anyone wanting a "crisp" flashing effect. Additionally, dimmer pack's built-in chases have always alternated speeds no matter what speed you set it at. This unit FINALLY does away with this. Whatever speed you choose is consistent. Whoo! The only other issue you may have with LED bulbs is if the per-channel load isn't high enough they won't turn off fully. The fix for this is a resistor, something they could easily have built in, but it looks like they prefer to sell a separate solution, their "Dummy Load" plug for another $20. As an alternative, you can use a single low-wattage incandescent bulb on each circuit. Not perfect, but great improvements in my book.

I bought three of these about 5 years ago for a theatre light lab at a college I was working for. Those three worked great for years, and as far as I know, are still working. When I moved to a new college in 2023, I decided to build a new light lab. So, I ordered two of the same units. Both were lemons. At first, they worked exactly as expected. Then, about two weeks after I installed them, they started having issues. First, unit one had channel 1 stop coming on, and then a week later, unit two's channel 4 wouldn't turn off. Both issues happened in class, while I was using them for a lesson. I've been working with dimmers and theatre lights for years, so I troubleshot them. I changed cables, changed power sources, used different light boards, and checked the fuses. The problems followed the packs. The issue is either in the circuit boards or the resistance dimmer itself. I had neither the time nor the patience to send them off to ADJ, so I returned them. It makes me sad, because the ones I bought years ago seemed bulletproof. IF they function, they are easy to use, easy to understand, and an excellent little dimmer for controlling low wattage lights. However, I won't risk buying these again.

We use ours in a a church setting with several incandescent bulbs. They work well. Not for LED systems.
