Beast Quest Box Set Series 1 (Book 1 to 6)

Good for promoting reading
My son is nearly seven and reads exceptionally well for his age, but like many small boys he can be a bit lazy and sometimes getting him to read would be a chore. Part of this is down to the fact the books he gets sent home from school with are in many cases absolute rubbish (he was sent one set that had no punctuation, making it almost impossible to read coherently). We've found the best solution to this is find books he's interested in, and preferably ones that are well written. He has a really strong interest in mythology, and likes reading Greek and Roman stories. He was particularly keen on the labours of Heracles and Homer's Odyssey and the Iliad, as well as the Norse Sagas and a well thumbed copy of Beowulf. He also makes frequent trips to the local library and it was there he found the first Beast Quest book. He read it from cover to cover in less than a day and then nagged to go back to the library to get the next one, but they only had four books and they were out of order so I ordered this set for him.As a general rule, he gets a story read to him before bed, but once he got these he now not only gets a couple of chapters read to him - he actually takes the book to bed with him and reads more of it himself. He tends to read a couple of chapters at night, and then more in the morning. He's currently working his way through series four at a prodigious rate.I've read some of the books myself and to be brutally honest, the early books aren't massively well written, tending to be a collection of short sentences rather than being punctuated properly, but the writing improves as the series progress and more importantly the stories are fun and action packed, even if they do tend to borrow rather heavily from other sources but even that in itself isn't terrible as it introduces some of the more common mythical elements such as the Minotaur and Pegasus. On the whole, if you have a child around this age, especially a boy, you could could do a lot worse than try these books. The only real downside we've found is that he reads them so avidly we're slightly concerned at what we'll do once he's read them all.

Good value
Bought as a gift. Recipient reported back that all but one had now been read and was delighted with them. Ideal for the young reader and I thought the pack very reasonably priced.

Not a box set
The books are just what I was looking for, but it is advertised as a box set, when in fact, it is 6 books wrapped in cellophane. I would still have bought the series, but feel the advert should be edited with the “box set” removed.

Brilliant!
At last we've found some fantastic boys' adventure books! Apart from Roald Dahl, we have struggled to find anything that has kept my son interested, never mind us!I never thought about buying these books as I thought they would be too complicated and old for my 7 year old son based on the books' covers but, on the contrary, they are fantastic. Action packed, perfect for boys and girls as the two main characters are a boy and a girl, easy to follow, really well written and to be honest I can't wait to read them to my son at night. He has even started to read a couple of chapters himself each night which he would never do before. I'm so pleased there are over 50 books as it will keep us going for a while. Would definitely recommend these books.

Thank you Adam Blade!
It has always been a struggle to get my 9 year old dyslexic son to read anything and suddenly one day he came home from school and asked (yes, actually asked!) us to get him a set of books call Beast Quest - some of his friends had been reading and talking about them at school and that had got him interested. Not wanting to let an opportunity like this pass, we duly ordered the first set of books. My son now wants to read, even to the point of going to bed early so that he can read them out loud to me! Being dyslexic reading them is quite a slow process, but that dosen't matter - it's the fact that he's trying and has a new found enthusiasm for reading that's so great.Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
