The software is web based so you'll need an internet connection to start your print. It works well with slow connections, and once your print starts, it can finish offline.

Will this engrave metal/aluminum?

Yes. The Glowforge Plus marks some metals, like anodized aluminum, directly. Other metals, like stainless steel, need to be sprayed with a product like Cermark for better contrast. Unlike many materials, the marking process does not remove metal, so it stays smooth to the touch.

What are the ventilation requirements/methods?

The Glowforge Plus comes with an 8-foot, 4 inch wide exhaust hose to vent to the outside through a window or a dryer vent.
