RAM Mounts Single Socket Arm with Round Swivel Plate RAP-B-200-1-293U Compatible with RAM B Size 1" Ball Components

For those of you that are looking at this single side view of a RAM Mount and wonder what is meant by "swivel base", I am here to clear this up once and for all, because I took the risk and ordered it. When delivered, the item was in three pieces (i.e. the wing nut to adjust, the square mounting plate, and the RAM ball receptacle). The bottom plate has a molded circular disk mounted on a square pedestal. So, your ball receiver bottom goes over this circle and can grip the square/multi sided pedestal when you tighten the wing nut. Simultaneously, the 1" ball you inserted will also be gripped and tightened. Once full tight, the bottom will NOT swivel as it is secured on straight edges but once you loosen the wing nut, you can swivel the bottom near the plate and of course your ball can move around too. So, fear not if you needed a short stubby base rather than a base and an arm that would cause your device to suddenly collapse mid air. My use case was to use this mount on a Seadoo Water Ski to hold a Garmin GPS/Fishfinder (model 43cv or 4" screen). When my Seadoo slams down after launching over a wave, a longer arm would immediately collapse or bend under the strain. This short one is only a single point of failure, rather than two points. So, it is a no brainer for my specific use case. I hope this helps. =)

Worked perfect for GDL52

I haven't been able to find a suitable phone mount for my truck. There's lots of cheap plasticky crap out there with varying bad reviews. I found a metal one that's highly rated and seemed simple and solid. But it has the 1" ball for a RAM mount. I've got RAM mounts for a few items on my motorcycles and the airplane, so I shopped around and found this base. The diameter of the base is 2.5". As it turns out, the (useless) coin holder in my Toyota Tundra is located exactly where I wanted a phone holder and the round hole it was mounted in is 2.5". Boom! I'm actually really happy with how this turned out. Rock solid, and no more phone sliding around the console.

This is a sturdy base and works perfectly with other Ram products. Of course. On the downside, like most Ram mounts, it's rather utilitarian.
